Annual Giving

What is Annual Giving at Palmer College of Chiropractic?

Contributions to the Annual Giving program at Palmer enrich the lives of our students, strengthen our programs and secure the future of our College and our profession. Annual gifts are the mainstay of our successful development effort and reflect the commitment of our alumni and friends to educational quality.

Contributors to the Annual Giving program may give unrestricted gifts or designate their gifts for a particular purpose. Unrestricted gifts are our most valuable resource and allow us to respond to unforeseen opportunities.

Annual Giving contributions benefit the College in numerous areas such as scholarships, research, campus enhancements, library and clinic acquisitions, faculty development and classroom instructional support.

Gift Clubs

Palmer College of Chiropractic proudly recognizes contributors at the following levels:

President's Club:

What is the Palmer College of Chiropractic President's Club?
The President's Club comprises currently over 500 of Palmer's most loyal and supportive alumni and friends. Since its inception in 1990, the President's Club has experienced impressive growth and has had a substantial impact on the College. Collectively, its members contribute more than $550,000 annually and further enhance Palmer College through their leadership and vision.

What are the requirements for membership?
Individuals are eligible for membership in the President's Club with a qualifying gift of at least $1,000 annually. Members may join at the one-diamond level with a $2,500 annual gift, two-diamond level with a $5,000 annual gift, and the three-diamond level with a gift of $10,000 or more annually.

What are the benefits of belonging to the President's Club?
President's Club members are kept abreast of the latest Palmer news and are encouraged to discuss the College's achievements, challenges and opportunities. In addition, members are invited to Palmer College-related events across the country, as well as travel opportunities abroad.

President's Club members receive a distinguished lapel pin upon joining, and their names are displayed prominently on the Honors Wall at the Palmer College of Chiropractic campus in Davenport, Iowa.

Memorials or Living Tributes:
Donating to Palmer College in memory of a loved one or in honor of a favorite patient or chiropractor requires no minimum gift and serves as a wonderful tribute to that individual. Honorees and/or families are notified by our office of these memorial gifts.

Gifts-in-kind:
Equipment, library resources, archival materials and other types of personal property may be donated to the College once our Development staff has been contacted. It's up to the donor to establish a value for the gift. Internal Revenue code requires a qualified appraisal when the claimed value of the gift is $5,000 or more.

Gifts of Stock
While gifts of cash are always welcome, many Palmer alumni and friends have discovered that the most cost-effective way to complete their charitable gift is with appreciated stock—enabling them to save taxes twice. If you give a gift of stock, for example:

  • You receive a charitable income tax deduction based on the market value of the stock if it has been owned more than one year.
  • You also completely avoid the capital gain tax on any “paper profits” from your investment because the stock will be sold by Palmer, which is a tax exempt 501 ( c ) 3 organization

Please check with your tax advisor regarding the precise tax implications for your personal situation.

in the Office of Development at (563) 884-5610.

Deferred Gifts and Estate Planning (Bequests)
An investment in Palmer College made through an estate plan carries special meaning. In essence, you create a “living legacy” that enables your wishes and values to be perpetuated while positively affecting the lives of future generations of Palmer students. Also, such bequests may provide the additional benefit of being fully deductible for federal estate tax purposes.

To make a contribution to the Annual Giving program, please call Drew R. Boster
in the Office of Development at (563) 884-5610.

Establishing Scholarships at Palmer College

Donors may lessen the financial burden of Palmer College of Chiropractic students by establishing annual or endowed scholarships. To endow, the scholarship fund must reach a minimum balance of $10,000 within three years. Donors work closely with Drew R. Boster to create scholarship criteria.

To discuss donations for a scholarship, please call Drew R. Boster in the Office of Development at (563) 884-5610.
