A graduate student is expected to maintain GPA of 3.0 or above.
Probation: When a student earns a grade “C” in a course taken
for graduate credit, that student is placed on Academic Probation. While
on Probation, the student may register for graduate courses as determined
by their advisory committee*, but must earn at least a grade “B” in each
course taken in the next term of registration to be eligible for
restoration to Good Academic Standing. Additional remediation may be
required at the discretion of an advisory committee*.
Dismissal: When a graduate student earns a second grade “C” in
any course taken for graduate credit, that student will be dismissed.
When a graduate student earns a grade “F” in a course taken for
graduate credit, that student will be dismissed from Graduate Study.
* A Graduate Advisory Committee or, in the absence of such a
committee, a designated advisor and the Graduate Council.
Notice: Written notice of change in Academic Standing
(Probation or Dismissal) from the Dean of Graduate Studies will accompany
a grade report containing the deficient earned grade(s).
Appeal: Graduate Students placed on Probation or Dismissal may
appeal this determination in writing, to the Graduate Council. Letters of
appeal must be submitted within one week of notice of the change in
academic status. The letter of appeal should provide sufficient grounds
and any necessary documentation to assure effective review. At a called
meeting, the Graduate Council will meet to consider the appeal and the
student will be invited to address the appeal at that meeting.
Remediation: Remediation of Probation is at the discretion of
the Advisory Committee or the Graduate Council, when such a committee
does not exist.
The Student may be restored to Good Academic Standing only after
ratification by the Graduate Council.
