8/17/2011 (Archived)
The Sigma Phi Chi sorority, the oldest chiropractic organization in
the world, celebrated its 100-year anniversary this year during Palmer
Homecoming. A special recognition video was presented during the
Homecoming opening session, and the ladies of Sigma Phi Chi were given a
standing ovation.
Sorority
events during the weekend included the Dr. Esther Mork Hat & Tea
Luncheon, the annual meeting, Sigma Phi Chi breakfast on Friday, and the
black tie Centennial Celebration held at the Outing Club.
Sigma
Phi Chi was founded in 1911 by Mabel Heath Palmer, D.C., and the
sorority’s motto is “to love and defend chiropractic” and their goal is
to empower women to become leaders in chiropractic. It was incorporated
on May 25, 1914, by the state of Iowa. Only three women have had the
role of Supreme Kiatrus, including Dr. Mabel Palmer, Agnes Palmer, D.C.,
and current Supreme Kiatrus Glenda Foy, D.C. The sorority welcomes all
female D.C. students, C.T. students and the wives of male D.C.
students.
