Athletics and Intramurals

Palmer College of Chiropractic Florida believes in the value of athletics and recreational sports as extracurricular activity. As such, the College sponsors a full complement of athletic programs for students and staff. Recreational teams include soccer, golf and surfing. Additionally, the College sponsors intramural sports including volleyball, flag football, basketball and softball.

Aikido Club

The Aikido Club teaches members about Aikido, a Japanese martial art that focuses on awareness and taking control of a situation instead of being controlled by it. When practicing Aikido, participants use circular movement to redirect attacks. They blend and “lead” the attacker into a variety of throws or joint-tightening techniques.

Bio-Geometric Integration Club

Bio-Geometric Integration, according to Sue Brown, D.C., a Palmer alumnus and its developer, is a conceptual understanding that enhances the chiropractor’s knowledge of the human body by providing an understanding of the innate geometry of the body and force dynamics surrounding the creation and release of subluxations. The philosophy, science and art of chiropractic are examined from a post-Newtonian point of view, providing the opportunity to express and understand chiropractic in accord with contemporary science. By understanding the innate geometry of the body, the chiropractor is able to more effectively and gently release the subluxation and assess the effectiveness of the adjustment.

Campus Guides

The Campus Guide organization, created in 1959, provides tours and information to prospective students and visiting dignitaries; participates in orientations, graduations and award ceremonies; promotes the role of PCCF in the chiropractic profession; and promotes the growth of the Guides in the art, science and philosophy of chiropractic.

Class Governments

Each class elects its own officers, based on its own constitution. Classes can plan fund-raisers and social events within established guidelines. Student Services appoints a faculty member to serve as an adviser to each class to help with their activities and act as a source of information regarding College policies.

FCA Club

The FCA Club gives Palmer Florida students an advance link to the Florida Chiropractic Association and its educational programs. The club helps link students to potential future experiences like internships and associateships, and attracts speakers in areas ranging from practice management and legislation to techniques and equipment.

Gonstead Club

The Gonstead Club’s mission is to promote the teachings of Dr. C. S. Gonstead. The Gonstead System is taught in Mt. Horeb, Wis., by the Gonstead Seminars of Chiropractic. This club is not intended to be a substitute for the Gonstead seminar series but is a supplement to the knowledge gained from these seminars. The Gonstead technique is a full-spine, standard-force system of adjusting that includes a system of radiographic film analysis to determine vertebral listings to assist the chiropractor in adjusting. The club offers hands-on training and guest speakers.

Motion Palpation Club

The Motion Palpation Club helps students become proficient in the art of motion palpation, while developing an understanding of clinical biomechanics and neurology. Meetings cover palpation of the spine and extremities; concepts of end feel, joint play and joint dysfunction; biomechanics of joints and the back force transmission system; and neurological considerations.

Palmer Florida Triune

The PCCF student newspaper, The Palmer Florida Triune presents a forum of information for Palmer students, faculty and friends.

Pediatrics Club

This club was formed to familiarize students with the philosophy and science of pediatric chiropractic care, while detailing what conditions may improve under chiropractic care and how to recognize those children who may benefit from such care. All three faculty advisers have completed Palmer College of Chiropractic’s Pediatric Diplomate Program.

Pettibon Club

Club members learn the science, biomechanics and theories used in the Pettibon Chiropractic System and receive hands-on experience with Pettibon adjustments and rehabilitation procedures. The Pettibon Chiropractic System is a comprehensive rehabilitation program for the spine’s hard and soft tissues. It applies research-tested adjustment procedures and equipment, trains patients in home care for faster recovery, and uses X-rays for diagnosis, assessing progress, and proof of treatment effectiveness.

Pro-Adjuster Club

This club introduces students to the Pro-Adjuster Technique, which was developed by Palmer alumnus Maurice Pisciottano, D.C. The technique allows the doctor to assess the spine for subluxations and fixations, review the findings on an automated computer screen, and deliver a consistent adjustment to the patient with optimal patient and doctor comfort. The analysis can then be graphically analyzed with the pre-adjustment and post-adjustment results of the spinal scan to show patients their progress with each visit. The chiropractor’s findings are objective, consistent and reproducible.

Research & Writing Club

The Research & Writing Club was founded in February 2004 to coordinate research efforts with the Davenport campus. The club is instrumental in creating the foundation for research activities on the Palmer Florida campus and in letting the faculty know that students are willing to participation in data collection, case studies, information and community activities, all of which will make Palmer Florida the premiere chiropractic research center in the Southeast. The club also serves as an outlet for students to develop professional writing skills through creation of columns in newsletters and periodicals.

Sacro Occipital Technique Club

Sacro Occipital Technique (SOT) is a method of chiropractic care that identifies the cause of a patient’s symptoms by analyzing the body to determine underlying spinal, cranial and organ-related problems. Practitioners understand the mechanics and neurology and neurology of the body in an organized and practical way. SOT is a method of normalizing the relationship between the sacrum (the foundation of the spine) and the occiput (the top of the spine). Meetings feature guest speakers and technique demonstrations.

Sports Chiropractic Club

Members of the Sports Chiropractic Club work with the sports teams at Atlantic High School, providing chiropractic care and treating extremity injuries with taping and bracing. This club offers an opportunity for students to provide community service and establish a rapport with athletic trainers at area high schools.

Student Council

The objective of the Student Council is to represent the student body individually and collectively and to enhance student endeavors pursuant to the realization of the philosophy, science and art of chiropractic. Each year, the student body elects a president, vice president, secretary and treasurer. Additionally, each class elects a class representative.
