Discipline of Clinical Practice (PC)

This sequence is designed to develop professional skills necessary in the practice of chiropractic. In a supervised clinical environment, previous academic training is exercised in the care and management of patients. Specific courses are offered in office and patient management and in the communication, legal and business aspects of general practice.


PC 331

Ethics and Jurisprudence

 

(4 lecture hrs. per week)

 

Co-requisite
: PC 332.

Professional ethics and legal aspects of practice; doctor/patient relationship; necessity for comprehensive and complete case history records and procedures; legal responsibilities relating to patient care, including malpractice lawsuits; doctor/lawyer relationships; insurance and personal injury court proceedings.


PC 332

Clinic I

 

(1.5 lecture hrs. & 2.5 lab hrs. per week)

 

Prerequisite: Successful completion (“C” or better) of all courses through 8th quarter.

Provide students instruction and evaluation regarding the policies and procedures of the PCCW Clinic System, including a review of quality improvement principles and their practical application in chiropractic practice. Demonstration of clinical competency. Practical clinical training. This course marks the beginning of the student’s internship in the College’s Public (outpatient) Clinics. Progress continues toward meeting the College’s clinical graduation requirements.


PC 412

Clinic II

 

(15 lab hrs. per week)

 

Prerequisite: PC 332.

 

Co-requisite: DB 411.

Supervised acceptance of outpatients for full range of chiropractic care; emphasis on development of professional skills through experience. Demonstration of clinical competency.


PC 421

Management of the Chiropractic Practice

 

(4 lecture hrs. per week)

 

Co-requisite: PC 422.

Skills necessary to establish a chiropractic practice; fundamentals of business management; office design; chiropractic office management.


PC 422

Clinic III

 

(24 lab hrs. per week)

 

Prerequisite: PC 412.

 

Co-requisite: DB 421.

Continuation of outpatient care; further experience in chiropractic procedures. Demonstration of clinical competency.


PC 431

Clinic IV

 

(24 lab hrs. per week)

 

Prerequisite: PC 422.

 

Co-requisite: DB 431

Final phase of clinic patient care program; continuation of meeting responsibilities of patient care; smooth transition of patients to lower-quarter interns; evaluation by peers and clinic staff of proficiency in chiropractic abilities and completion of clinic requirements. Demonstration of clinical competency.


PC 511

Development of the Chiropractic Practice

 

(3 lecture hrs. per week)

 

Prerequisites: PC 421, PA 431.

Seminar and workshop series addressing the skills and attributes necessary for success in chiropractic practice, including: staff selection and training; billing procedures; management of personal injury and workers’ compensation cases; report writing; court appearances and deposition testimony on behalf of patients; developing an ethical and profitable practice.


PC 512

Clinic V

 

(Field Training Program)

 

(24 lab hrs. per week)

 

Prerequisite: PC 431, 11th Quarter CCEP Exam, a passing grade in all academic courses through 12th Quarter.
Co-requisite
s: DB 512, PC 511.

This program is an off-site educational experience intended to enhance the knowledge of the chiropractic intern/student beyond what is normally provided in the chiropractic college curriculum. Core activities include observation and college-directed participation in a clinical setting of office management and administrative procedures. And, at the discretion of the preceptor doctor, the student may perform supervised examination and diagnosis, chiropractic adjusting and case management.

NON-DEGREE COURSE

PC 521

Preceptorship

 

(24 lab hrs. per week)

 

Prerequisite: Graduate of chiropractic degree program

This program is an off-site educational experience intended to enhance the knowledge of the chiropractic intern beyond what is normally provided in the chiropractic college curriculum. Core activities include observation and college-directed participation in a clinical setting of office management and administrative procedures. At the discretion of the preceptor doctor, the intern may perform supervised examination and diagnostic procedures, chiropractic adjusting and assist with case management.
