Application Procedure
 

Orientation

A formal orientation is conducted at the beginning of each term. Attendance at orientation is required for all entering students.

Selection of Candidates

Candidates are selected on a composition of factors that include a high school diploma or its equivalent and demonstrated academic ability by a cumulative grade average of “C” in the disciplines of Science*, Math and English and an overall cumulative grade average of 2.00.

Application Procedure

The following information is for application to the A.S.C.T., C.C.A. and C.O.A. programs:

  • Complete the application for admission. Type all information and submit the application to the Undergraduate Studies Office.
  • A non-refundable processing fee of $50 must be submitted with the application. Make check payable to Palmer College of Chiropractic.
  • The application and all pertinent forms should be on file with the Undergraduate Studies Department at least four weeks prior to the beginning of the desired starting academic term. Students are encouraged to submit their application at least six months prior to their desired term of entry. Supporting documents will be held only 30 days without an application.
  • Official transcripts from all high schools and colleges attended, including summer school, must be sent to the Undergraduate Studies Office directly from the issuing school or college. Applicants still attending other schools or colleges should have official transcripts forwarded as soon as they are available.

Applicants are promptly notified as documents are received and each step of the application is completed. Only written communication directly from the Undergraduate Studies Office shall be considered official.

Acceptance is based on approval of the completed file. Applicants will be notified of their current status. A $50 deposit is required within 21 days of acceptance. The deposit is nonrefundable and is applied in full toward the first trimester tuition. The balance of the first academic term tuition is due on orientation day.

If the applicant does not begin at Palmer in the academic term requested and the Undergraduate Studies Department is unable to make contact, the file will be destroyed. The prospective student must then reapply and resubmit all necessary documents. If applicants have further questions about admissions requirements or the application process, contact the Undergraduate Studies Department in writing or by calling (800) 722-2586, Ext. 5743 or (563) 884-5743 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. CST.

Program Requirements

The basic prerequisite education for the A.S.C.T., C.C.A. or C.O.A. programs includes:

  • High school diploma or equivalent with a cumulative grade point average of 2.00.
  • Minimum one year of high school English composition with a grade average of “C.”
  • Minimum one year of high school general math with a grade average of “C.”
  • Minimum one year of high school general science with a grade average of “C.”*
  • Minimum one year of high school biology with a grade point average of “C,” taken within the last five years prior to enrollment, or concurrent enrollment in Fundamentals of Biology* and Anatomy and Physiology I*.
    (*Does not apply to C.O.A. program.)

The basic graduation requirements for the A.S.C.T., C.C.A. or C.O.A. programs are:

A.S.C.T.—Completion of 71-72 credit hours
C.C.A.—Completion of 40-41 credit hours
C.O.A.—Completion of 30 credit hours

  • No grade below a C (2.00/4.00) will be accepted toward any program.
  • Credit hours may be transferred from a regionally accredited undergraduate school. Please contact the Division of Undergraduate Studies for details.

Distribution of Subjects by Credit Hours:
Natural and Physical Science—11-12 credit hours. Includes Anatomy and Physiology I and II, nutrition and Fundamentals of Biology.

Clinical—18 credit hours. Includes chiropractic methods, clinical science, rehabilitation procedures, emergency procedures/cardiopulmonary resuscitation, clinic externship, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Regulations.

Humanities/Social and Behavioral Science—14 credit hours. Includes philosophy, psychology, ethics, interpersonal communications, written communications.

Business—15 credit hours. Includes computer skills, office management, insurance procedures, bookkeeping, business law.

Radiography—14 credit hours. Includes radiographic anatomy, X-ray technology and protection, X-ray positioning, radiographic quality.

Clinic requirements—Meeting the clinic requirements for graduation requires the successful completion of the clinic externship. Clinic requirements must be completed two weeks prior to graduation or the student is not eligible to graduate.
