Fundamentals of Pathology—4 credits
Prerequisites: ANAT204, PHCH331, PHCH305
Prerequisite for: PATH410, DIAG703, DIAG707, DIAG708, TECH604, TECH613
Co-requisite with: ANAT205, PATH415, PATH416
The course is an introduction to the basic changes occurring in disease. Topics covered include cellular injury and death, inflammation and repair, hemodynamics, neoplasms and diseases of immunity.

PATH410 62
Systems Pathology—7 credits
Prerequisite: ANAT204, PATH408
Prerequisite for: DIAG708, DIAG712, DIAG713
Co-requisite with: TECH613
The study of human pathology as it relates specifically to the major organ systems. This course will emphasize pathologic processes associated with the central nervous system, musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, respiratory and gastrointestinal systems.

PATH413 71
Toxicology—3 credits
Prerequisites: PHCH305, PHCH340
Co-requisite with: DIAG707, DIAG708
This course deals with the basic principles of toxicology drug doses and dose response, toxic effects, interactions, toxicity testing methods, risk assessments, exposure standards and guidelines. In addition, drug-induced nutritional deficiencies will be discussed in detail. Side effects of various drugs, drug-like substances and environmental pollutants will be elaborated in an interactive fashion.

Public Health—3 credits
Prerequisites: None
Public health, parasitology, virology and pollution are discussed. Emphasis is placed on providing a description of epidemiology and pathogenesis of infection and disease.

Immunology & Communicable Diseases—3 credits
Prerequisites: None
Prerequisite for: DIAG708
Co-requisite with: ANAT205, PATH408, PATH416 The course introduces the basis of immunity, phagocytosis, complement, humoral mechanisms and specific acquired immunity.

PATH416 61
Microbiology—5 credits
Prerequisites: None
Prerequisite for: None
Co-requisite with: ANAT205, PATH408, PATH415, PHCH305
The course addresses the basic structure, functions and growth requirements of microorganisms. Lecture and lab.
