Scholarships

Palmer College scholarships recognize outstanding academic performance and extracurricular contributions to the College and community. Qualified students are encouraged to apply. Applications and deadlines are available through the Financial Planning Office and in the on-campus Weekly Bulletin. All scholarships are considered financial assistance. Institutional scholarships are made available through donations or internally generated funds and are administered by the Scholarship Committee. Award amounts of institutional scholarships are regularly reviewed and determined according to funding availability. (Application available in Microsoft Word format: Click Here)

Recruitment Incentives and Scholarships

Palmer International Student Scholarship: A $1,500 tuition credit is available to all international students for the first trimester. Criteria: Must be a full-time student. Students must maintain a minimum 3.00 GPA to receive the award each trimester. Application should be made six months prior to admission to Palmer College. Contact the International Admissions Representative for an application.

Dr. Frank Sartz Recruitment Scholarship: A $2,000 tuition credit is available to entering students. Criteria: Exceptional academic and personal achievement. A written application and a one-page essay outlining the applicant’s Chiropractic philosophy is required. Recipients are selected by the Admissions Department.

Miss America Pageant Scholarship: Full-tuition scholarships are available each trimester to winners of state pageants leading to the Miss America competition. Criteria: Must have won a state competition and have completed a year’s reign. To apply, a formal written request to the President of Palmer College is required, as well as proof of prerequisites for Palmer enrollment.

Merit Scholarships

Palmer Achievement Award: $1,500 tuition credit for up to three trimesters. Awards are made each trimester. Criteria: Minimum 3.90 GPA, full-time enrollment, in seventh trimester or above. Applications are available in the Financial Planning Office.

Chiropractic Technologist Achievement Award: A $300 award available to C.T. students each trimester. Criteria: Minimum 3.90 GPA; entering second, third or fourth trimester. Applications and deadline dates are available from the Financial Planning Office.

Departmental Scholarships

Basic Sciences: Three awards of $1,000 each awarded in the fall trimester. Criteria: Fourth through seventh trimester students with minimum 3.75 GPA; must have 4.0 GPA in anatomy, physiology/biochemistry or pathology. Applications are available in the Financial Planning Office.

International Scholarships

Canadian Student Endowed Scholarship: Minimum award of $500 made annually in the October trimester. Criteria: Entering fourth trimester or above, minimum 3.0 GPA, must be a member of Quebec or Canadian Club. Applications are available in the Financial Planning Office.

Dr. Henry Hin Keung Chan Scholarship: Minimum $1,000 award made in the summer trimester. Criteria: Resident of Pacific Rim country. Applications are available in the Financial Planning Office.

Dr. Paul and Alice Peterson Endowed Scholarship for Financially Challenged International Students: Minimum $1,000 annual award. Criteria: Minimum 2.5 GPA. Full-time international student in good academic standing. Preference will be given to students in later trimesters. Financial need will be the primary consideration. Applications are available in the Financial Planning Office.

Italy Endowed Scholarship Fund: Minimum $500 award made in the fall trimester. Criteria: Italian resident who is returning to Italy to practice. Full time enrollment and in good academic standing. Preference will be given to students with:

  • Financial Need

  • Merit (GPA)

  • Seniority at Palmer College of Chiropractic

Applications are available in the Financial Planning Office.

Danish Student Scholarship Fund: Two $1500 scholarships to be awarded annually, in the summer for the July trimester.

Criteria:

  • Danish Descent
  • Attending Palmer College Davenport Campus
  • Intent to return to Denmark to practice
  • Demonstrate financial need

  • Submit letter of intent to practice

Memorial Scholarships

Nathan and Ellen Andrews Scholarship: A $500 minimum award made in the fall trimester. Criteria: Graduate of University of Northern Colorado or Colorado resident. Applications are available in the Financial Planning Office.

Gayle Carpenter Scholarship: Minimum $500 award made annually in the fall trimester. Criteria: Arkansas resident who will practice in the state. Applications are available in the Financial Planning Office.

Dr. H.B. Donovan Memorial Scholarship: $500 minimum award made in the spring trimester. Criteria: Full time student in good academic standing in seventh trimester or above. Minimum 2.50 GPA. Applicants must possess strong clinical skills and a passion for chiropractic. Two letters of recommendation are required attesting to the student’s clinical abilities and commitment to chiropractic. Applications are available in the Financial Planning Office.

Elmer W. Ferguson Scholarship: Fifteen $1,000 awards made annually in the spring trimester. Criteria: Third to sixth trimester student, full-time enrollment, minimum 2.50 GPA, two letters of
recommendation from faculty. Applications are available in the Financial Planning Office.

Dr. Charles Fischman Scholarship: A $500 award made annually in the fall trimester. Criteria: New Jersey resident with minimum 3.00 GPA. Applications are available in the Financial Planning Office.

Frank J. Gough Scholarship: $500 awarded annually in fall trimester. Criteria: New York resident in seventh trimester or above, minimum 3.75 GPA. Applications are available in the Financial Planning Office.

Dr. Ken Hendricks Scholarship: A $1,000 award made annually in the fall trimester. Criteria: Florida resident, minimum 2.50 GPA, fifth trimester or above. Applications are available in the Financial Planning Office.

Dr. Ken Ketz Scholarship: A $1,000 award made annually in the spring trimester. Criteria: Alaska resident who will practice in state, fifth trimester or above, good academic standing. Award will be made to applicant with highest GPA. Applications are available in the Financial Planning Office.

Liddell/Scallon Scholarship: Minimum $500 awards made annually in the summer trimester. Criteria: In fourth through eighth trimester, minimum 3.00 GPA, full-time status. Applications are available in the Financial Planning Office.

Dr. Robert Macha Scholarship: A $1,000 award made annually in the fall trimester. Criteria: Wisconsin resident entering eighth trimester or above, minimum 3.00 GPA. Applications are
available in the Financial Planning Office.

Dr. Joseph P. Mazzarelli, New Jersey Alumni Scholarship: A $500 award made in the spring trimester. Criteria: New Jersey resident, minimum 3.00 GPA, active member of Palmer Student Alumni Foundation and/or New Jersey Club. Essay required. Applications are available in the Financial Planning Office.

Mennega Scholarship: A minimum $500 award is made annually in the summer trimester. Criteria: In fourth through eighth trimester, minimum 3.00 GPA, full-time enrollment. Applications are available in the Financial Planning Office.

Dr. George E.O. and Tabea Moellendorf Scholarship: Minimum $1,000 award made annually in the fall trimester. Criteria: Wisconsin resident, minimum 2.50 GPA, involvement in extracurricular activities, full-time enrollment. Essay required. Applications are available in the Financial Planning Office.

The Arthur, Phyllis and Raymond Monson Scholarship: Minimum $1,000 awards made annually. Criteria: Resident of southeast Iowa. Application request is made through the Financial Planning Office.

G. Russell Nease Scholarship: A minimum $500 award made annually in the fall trimester. Criteria: West Virginia resident. Applications are available in the Financial Planning Office.

Nielsen/Williams Scholarship: A minimum $500 award made in the summer trimester. Criteria: In fourth through eighth trimester with minimum 3.00 GPA, full-time enrollment. Applications are available in the Financial Planning Office.

Hazel Peterson Scholarship: A minimum $500 award made annually in the fall trimester.
Criteria: Colorado resident with minimum 3.00 GPA. Applications are available in the Financial Planning Office.
Florence Houghton Sargent Scholarship: A minimum $500 award made annually in the fall trimester. Criteria: Female student, minimum 3.00 GPA, second trimester or above. Applications are available in the Financial Planning Office.

Schoen/Stokes Scholarship: $500 minimum awards made in the spring trimester. Criteria: In fourth through eighth trimester with minimum 3.00 GPA, full-time enrollment. Applications are available in the Financial Planning Office.

Dr. Robert R. Walper Scholarship: Varied award available in the spring trimester. Criteria: Florida resident, fourth trimester or above, minimum 2.50 GPA. Applications are available in the Financial Planning Office.

Endowed Scholarships

Frank E. Bemis Scholarship: A minimum $1,000 award made annually in the spring trimester. Criteria: Illinois resident who will practice in the state, minimum 3.0 GPA. Applications are available in the Financial Planning Office.

Dr. Edward J. Galvin Scholarship: A $500 award made annually at Homecoming. Criteria: New York resident who will return to the state to practice, full-time enrollment, minimum 3.0 GPA, fifth trimester or above. Applications are available in the Financial Planning Office.

Frutiger Trust Scholarship: Varied award made in the fall trimester. Criteria: Minimum 3.0 GPA, full-time enrollment, graduate of a Broome County, New York, high school or Broome Community College or have completed two years at a state university in New York. Applications are available in the Financial Planning Office.

Drs. Arthur and Esther Mork Endowed Scholarship Fund: A minimum $1,000 annual award ($500 to each student). Criteria: This scholarship is offered to married couples, both of whom are enrolled full-time and in good academic standing in the D.C. program. Couples in the seventh trimester or above shall be given preference. Financial need shall be a major determining factor as well as merit and academic standing. United States citizens shall be given preference. Submission of a copy of marriage license is required. Applications are available in the Financial Planning Office.

Dr. Paul and Alice Peterson Endowed Scholarship Fund for Visually Impaired Students: A minimum $1,000 award made annually in the spring trimester. Criteria: Full-time student in good academic standing. Preference given to those applicants with a visual handicap with a minimum 2.5 GPA. Financial need will be a secondary consideration. Applications are available in the Financial Planning Office.

Dr. Paul and Alice Peterson Endowed Scholarship Fund for the Financially Challenged U.S. Student: A minimum $1,000 award. Criteria: Minimum 2.5 GPA. Student must be in good academic standing and enrolled in second through ninth trimesters. Financial need will be the primary consideration in the selection process. Applications are available in the Financial Planning Office.

Meylor Family Endowed Scholarship: Minimum award of $2,500 made in the fall trimester. Criteria: Full time student in good academic standing. Preference given to students with documented learning disabilities and who possess a strong chiropractic background and desire to be a chiropractor. Preference will be given to students who have parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles or other relatives who are/were chiropractors. A short biography must be submitted with the application detailing the learning disability, if applicable, and the family member who are/were chiropractors. Applications are available in the Financial Planning Office.

The Marguerite Smith Endowed Scholarship Fund for Christian Chiropractic Students: $1,000 minimum award made in the summer trimester. Criteria: Full time enrollment status in good academic standing. Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to Christian values. Participation in church activities and Christian centered organizations is required. An essay of at least 500 words which states their chiropractic philosophy and their commitment to Christian values is required. Applications are available in the Financial Planning Office.

Leadership Recognition Scholarships

Vogt Leadership Society: Awards from $1,670 to $7,230 made each trimester to 12 students. Criteria: Excellent leadership qualities, as well as involvement in campus and off-campus organizations. Applicants are nominated by their peers. The selection of recipients is made by the Vogt Leadership Society Scholarship Committee. Classes are notified each trimester by the selection committee to submit nominations.

PCC Pennsylvania Alumni Leadership Scholarship: Minimum of $500 made in the spring trimester. Criteria: Must be an active member of PSAF and a Pennsylvania resident involved in extra-curricular chiropractic activities. Full-time enrollment status in fourth trimester or above. Minimum of 2.50 GPA. Two letters of recommendation that include comments on applicant’s extra-curricular activities and leadership skills required. Applications are available in the Financial Planning Office.

Scholarships for Campus Organizations

Dr. Edith Cronk Scholarship: Varied award made annually. Criteria: Member of Student International Chiropractors Association (SICA) in fourth trimester or above, minimum 2.5 GPA. Applications are available in the Financial Planning Office and from SICA.

Alma Neilsen Scholarship: Varied awards made annually. Criteria: Member of Student International Chiropractors Association (SICA) in seventh trimester or above. Applications are available in the Financial Planning Office and from SICA.

Other Institutional Scholarships

Class 943 Endowed Scholarship: A $943 annual award made at Lyceum (formerly Homecoming). Criteria: Must be entering fifth trimester or above in July; active involvement in Palmer Student Alumni Foundation, Student International Chiropractors Association, Student American Chiropractic Association or Student Council, as well as other on-campus and off-campus organizations, full-time enrollment, in good academic standing. Applications are available in the Financial Planning Office.

State Specific (Non-Memorial) Scholarships

PCC Florida Endowed Scholarship: $500 minimum award made in the spring trimester. Criteria: Florida resident who will return to Florida to practice. Must be full time and in good academic standing. Minimum 3.00 GPA and enrolled in the fifth trimester at time of application. Applications are available in the Financial Planning Office.

PCC Georgia Endowed Scholarship: $500 minimum award made in spring trimester. Criteria: Georgia resident who resided in Georgia for a period not less than five years prior to PCC matriculation. Applicants are considered Georgia residents if:

  • Didn’t reside in Georgia for purpose of attending college

  • Born in Georgia and maintained legal residence there for entire life

  • Not born in Georgia but moved there when young and resided there most of life

Applicants must have completed a minimum of three uninterrupted trimesters; minimum 3.00 GPA or better; involved in extracurricular and/or community activities. Application: Application date and deadline is posted in the scholarship announcement list in the Financial Planning Office. Applications are available in the Financial Planning Office.

PCC Iowa Endowed Scholarship: $500 minimum award made in the spring trimester. Criteria: Iowa resident who will practice in Iowa. Minimum 2.50 GPA with full-time status and in good academic standing. Must have demonstrated involvement in college extracurricular activities and/or community activities. Qualified applicants will submit a two-page essay explaining “What it means to stand in the light in my community.” Applications are available in the Financial Planning Office.

PCC Indiana Alumni Association Scholarship: $500 minimum award made in the spring trimester. Criteria: Indiana resident who will return to Indiana to practice. Full-time status and in good academic standing with a 2.50 GPA. Involvement in college extracurricular activities. Essay explaining the significance of the subluxation in the maintenance and restoration of health required. Applications are available in the Financial Planning Office.

PCC Kentucky Endowed Scholarship: $500 minimum award made in the spring trimester. Criteria: Kentucky resident who will return to Kentucky to practice. Full time status in good academic standing. Applicants with 3.40 GPA or higher will be given preference. Demonstrated involvement in college extra-curricular and/or community activities is required. Must be in fourth trimester or above to apply. Applications are available in the Financial Planning Office.

Dr. Joyce London Scholarship: Two $500 awards made annually in the spring trimester to one male and one female applicant. Criteria: Michigan resident, academic achievement, full-time enrollment. Applications are available in the Financial Planning Office.

PCC Maine Alumni Scholarship: A $500 award made annually in the spring trimester. Criteria: Maine resident, minimum 2.50 GPA. Applications are available in the Financial Planning Office.

PCC Massachusetts Alumni Scholarship: A $1,000 annual award made in the spring trimester. Criteria: Massachusetts resident who will return to the state to practice, in second through ninth trimester, minimum 2.75 GPA. Applications are available in the Financial Planning Office.

PCC Massachusetts Endowed Scholarship: $1,000 minimum award made in the spring trimester. Criteria: Full-time student in good academic standing who is a resident of Massachusetts and will return there to practice. Minimum 2.50 GPA with demonstrated involvement in college extracurricular activities and/or community activities. Applicants will submit an essay on: “How do extracurricular activities enhance and influence my preparation to become a D.C.” The essay will be the primary determinant for awarding the scholarship. Applications are available in the Financial Planning Office.

PCC Pennsylvania Endowed Scholarship: 2 Scholarship Awards of $1200 Each.

Criteria:

  • Must be Active Member of PSAF

  • Emphasis on Extracurricular Chiropractic Activities

  • Full Time Enrollment in & in 4th Tri/Qtr. Or Above in July

  • Minimum 2.75 GPA

  • Must be Pennsylvania Resident

  • Two Letters of Recommendation that include comments on applicants Extracurricular Chiropractic Activities & Leadership Skills

PCC South Carolina Endowed Scholarship: $500 minimum award made in the spring trimester. Criteria: South Carolina resident who will return to South Carolina to practice. Full-time enrollment status with a minimum 2.70 GPA. Applications are available in the Financial Planning Office.

Dr. Edward C. Stevens Scholarship Fund: A $500 award made annually in the summer trimester. Criteria: Nebraska resident in good academic standing. Essay required. Applications are available in the Financial Planning Office.

PCC Washington Endowed Scholarship: $500 minimum award made in the spring trimester. Criteria: Washington resident who will return to Washington State to practice. Full-time enrollment status with a minimum of 3.00 GPA. Applicants must be enrolled in fourth trimester at the time of application. Involvement in college and community extracurricular activities is required. Applications are available in the Financial Planning Office.

Ray and Thelma Willis Endowed Scholarship: $1,000 minimum award made in the summer trimester. Criteria: Virginia resident in good academic standing. Must be in fourth trimester or above. Preference is given to applicants from Southwest Virginia. Applicants must plan to practice in Virginia. Applications are available in the Financial Planning Office.

State Specific Grants

Alabama Chiropractic Scholarship and Grant Program: Varied awards depending on family size, income and more. Given each trimester by state of Alabama. Criteria: Alabama resident, full-time status, making satisfactory academic progress. Recipient must return to Alabama to practice. State of Arkansas Grant: $5,000 per fiscal year, with one-third awarded each trimester. Criteria: Arkansas resident, good academic standing. Delaware Post-Secondary Scholarship Fund: Varied awards made annually. Criteria: Delaware resident with financial aid need. Must complete financial aid application form by April 15 each year. Maryland Higher Education Commission State Scholarships and Grants: Varied awards made annually. Criteria: Maryland resident. Application and information can be obtained from Maryland Higher Education Commission State Scholarships, 16 Francis St., Annapolis, MD 21401. Phone: (410) 974-5370.

Mississippi Graduate and Professional Grant: Award of $3,142 per trimester. Criteria: Mississippi resident making satisfactory academic progress. Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education Grant: Varied awards each trimester. Criteria: Oklahoma resident with minimum 3.00 GPA. Rhode Island Scholarship and Grant Program: Varied annual awards. Criteria: Rhode Island resident, U.S. citizen, financial need. Application and information can be obtained from Rhode Island Higher Education Assistance Authority, 560 Jefferson Blvd., Warwick, RI 02886. Phone: (401) 277-2050.

Scholarships and Grants from Other Sources

Numerous other state organizations offer individual scholarships to Palmer students on an infrequent basis. When these scholarships are available, they are advertised in the Weekly Bulletin and the scholarship announcement list in the Financial Planning Office. It is important to check the Weekly Bulletin.

Most often, students meeting the eligibility criteria are sent applications directly to their Palmer mailboxes by the Scholarship Coordinator.
