Electronic Books

The following lists a number of websites that offer ready access to electronic books. The sites provide full-text access to  classics, literature, poetry, science, religion, philosophy and some medical textbooks. Some of the links listed also provide information on book publishing.

netLibrary

netLibrary is the world's provider of electronic books. Palmer Health Sciences Library has purchased access to over 9,000 book titles. For further assistance in using netLibrary please visit our netLibrary website.

Books on the Internet - University of Texas

An extensive subject directory developed by the library at the University of Texas at Austin  for online book sites, publishers, online bookstores, and book information sites.

Digital Book Index

Digital Book Index provides access to more than 72,000 titles records from over 1,800 publishers.

Early American Manual Therapy

"Green Books" full-text for early 20th century osteopathy textbooks.

The Internet Public Library's Online Book Collection

"The Internet Public Library Online Texts Collection contains over 15,000 titles that can be browsed by author, by title, or by Dewey Decimal Classification."

MedicalStudent.com - A Digital Library of Authoritative Information

"The goal of MedicalStudent.com is to provide a starting point for entry into medical places of enlightenment, entertainment and education on the Internet."

National Academies Press

"The NAP publishes more than 200 books a year on a wide range of topics in science, engineering, and health, capturing the most authoritative views on important issues in science and health policy." There are over 3,000 free books available.

The Online Books Page

Hosted by the University of Pennsylvania Library, The On-Line Books Page was founded in 1993 as "a website that facilitates access to books that are freely readable over the Internet."

Project Gutenburg

Begun in 1971 on the campus of the University of Illinois, "the Project Gutenberg Philosophy is to make information, books and other materials available to the general public in forms a vast majority of the computers, programs and people can easily read, use, quote, and search."

Homeopathy Collection

The Digital Library Production Service and Taubman Medical Library are pleased to announce the availability of the Homeopathy Collection. A project is currently underway to scan 500 books in the Homeopathy Collection of Taubman Medical Library and make their full text available online. The collection contains items dating from the mid-1800s to the present day.

NCBI Bookshelf

The NCBI Bookshelf is produced by the National Library of Medicine and provides online access to a number of biomedical textbooks.  Relevant titles include "Alternative Medicine and Rehabilitation: a Guide for Practitioners," "Global Burden of Disease and Risk Factors," and "Health, United States."  Full-text is available through keyword searches, but cannot be browsed.
