Palmer Academic Support Services (PASS)

Program Tutorials

Palmer Academic Support Services (PASS) program is a free tutorial service available to all Palmer students. Small or large group lecture and lab tutorials are available at least once a week. However, tutors may also elect to provide focused reviews of content just before examinations. This is especially beneficial in the basic sciences courses which are historically the most difficult courses. Information on times, locations and tutors are posted on the PASS program notice board located in West Hall by Suite 113,  in the Counseling Services  by Program Assistant office and outside the Quiet Study Center in West Hall by Suite W303.

Dr. Lisa Mestad For specific Lecture and Lab tutorial times, please see PASS schedule below or call Lisa Mestad, D.C., Academic Counselor, at (563) 884-5257 for any further questions.  West Hall 113.

Tutoring Agreements and Values

Palmer Academic Support Services (PASS) exists to help you acquire the skills and knowledge you need to be an independent successful learner.  As a student receiving tutorial services you are reasonably expecting your tutor to assist you in content areas in which you are having difficulty.  Your tutor or tutors also have expectations of you.  For tutorials services to be the most effective you are expected to acknowledge the following agreements and values:

  • Be on time for your tutorial session.  If you are in a group tutorial it can be disruptive to other students and your tutor if you come in late.
  • If you are not able to keep an appointment with your tutor, call your tutor as much in advance as possible.  You can also call the Counseling Services Program Assistant at (563) 884-5655, to leave a message.  If you establish a pattern of being late or not keeping individual appointments, your tutor will schedule another student.
  • Make sure you attend class. Tutorials are not a substitute for class attendance, but are intended to review and reinforce material presented in class.
  • Study to prepare for class and tutorials. Tutorials are not a substitute for your own studying.
  • Come to your tutorial equipped.  Please bring all the necessary notes, texts, or other materials that you may need for the tutorial session.
  • Review material before your tutorial and come with pre-written questions.  Know what you want your tutor to help you with.
  • Be an active learner. Come to the tutorial focused and ready to work.
  • Attend tutorials on a regular basis. Consistent, regular attendance in tutorials will be of more benefit than attending only before an exam.
  • You are the only person responsible for your success or failure.  Your performance on exams and practicals is the result of your effort and ability.
  • Please show respect to your tutor(s). Remember that they are students too.  Your tutor's schedule is probably just as busy, if not more so, then yours.

Who we are? (Bios and pictures)

Tutor Biography
Becky Ault
 Spinal II Lecture Tutor

I graduated from Youngstown State University in May 2003 and received a B.S. in Biology.  I was the YSU Head Majorette, YSU Dance Team Captain, and the treasurer and service chair for the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority.  I am now the treasurer for the Palmer Class O72.  For the last seven years I have taught dance classes at a dance studio and coached several high school squads.  I came to Palmer because I feel it will provide me with the best education possible.  I plan to open several wellness care practices and hope to help further chiropractic research and education throughout the world.

Curtis Begin
Cervical's Tutor

I am a 7th trimester student from Forest City, Iowa.  I earned a B.S. in business management from Iowa State University.  Since high school I have wanted to be involved in the health care field.  After two car accidents, both of which left me with low back pain, Chiropractic relieved me of my symptoms with only a few adjustments.  This is when I realized the benefits of Chiropractic care and what it can do to help others.

Joanna Chow
Endocrine Tutor

I am from Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Currently enjoying 9th trimester. My background is a BS in Chemistry. Chiropractic chose me: all I wanted was a different kind of healthcare job, and instead I found a complete career, lifestyle, and philosophy. I came to Palmer because it's the best!

Kami Connor
CNS Tutor

I am a 4th trimester student from New Lisbon, Wisconsin.  I have a B.S. in biology from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.  What better place to be than Palmer.  I'm excited to continue my journey exploring the possibilities and potential I will have someday as a chiropractor.

Veera Gupta
Biochem I & II Tutor

Jeff Hannah
Spinal II Cadaver Lab Tutor
7th Tri
Davenport, IA
I explored many options in both clinical sciences and other fields. As part of a chiropractic family, I'm always asking for adjustment: "Dad, fix me!" I know it works! So, when I considered that chiropractic was the one profession where I could help both strangers and my family most directly, the choice was easy.
Irma Kaleta-Wenzel
NMS I & II Tutor

I am 9th Trimester student from Arizona.  I was drawn to Chiropractic after working in many doctors offices I wanted to be part of a healthcare field that was able to help people without the use of drugs or surgeries.  I look forward to helping you as you progress through Palmer.

Ann Margrave
Gross I Cadaver Lab Tutor
I am a 8th trimester student from Central New York and have a BS in Environmental Science and French from Juniata College in Huntingdon, PA. I came to chiropractic in a round about way following a fall at work.  Soon after I began care, my chiropractor, a Palmer graduate, sent me home with some information about Palmer College.  It didn’t take long for me to figure out that I was meant for chiropractic and that Palmer Davenport was were I needed to pursue my chiropractic education.  I share my love for the history of chiropractic and this college with others as a Campus Guide and, despite the smell, enjoy tutoring Gross Anatomy I lab very much.

Anjlene Prasad
Spinal II Bone Lab Tutor

Trimester 4
Figi Islands
I got exposed to chiropractic through the clinic abroad program at the age of 16. I was studying computer programming in Fiji before starting Palmer College.  I will be Fiji's first chiropractor.
Tonia Rogers
 PNS Tutor

My name is Tonia Marie Rogers and I am in 6th trimester.  My sister, DeAnna, and her husband, Brad Walter are also students at Palmer.  We all moved here with our beautiful mother.  I graduated from the University of Nebraska at Omaha with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Bachelor of Arts in English with a French minor. I belong to the Catholic Club here on campus; and I am Secretary of SPEAK (Student Patient Education Awareness and Knowlege).  Good luck to all of you and may God bless you.
Tony Scarlassara
Cervicals Tutor
 7th trimester
Upper Michigan

What brought me to chiropractic was that I had injured my back while I was a canine officer for the sheriff’s department and I went to see a chiropractor.  I was amazed at what just a few adjustments could do to “cure” my back problem.  My wife is also in 6th trimester and we have two small children ages 3 and 5.

Brian Stuck
Palpation Tutor

I am from Kansas City, Missouri.  I  am now in 8th trimester which is when I'm able to begin helping patients express their innate.  I found a chiropractor in my community who absolutely loved his job everyday, knew everything about his patients, and worked with his hands to heal...oh yeah, he got paid for it!  What is better?

Lauri Webb
Gross I & Gross II Lab Tutor

I'm from a small town right outside of Houston, Texas, and graduated from UT Austin with a B.A. in Psychology. I was led to Palmer by way of a chiropractically-minded family and a car wreck. My best friend's sister was a Palmer grad, from whom I learned all about chiropractic. A car accident a few years later brought me to a DC who suggested I look into chiropractic as a career. I quickly concluded that this was a fabulous idea, and wasted no time in applying to the school that started it all, Palmer College.

Lindsey Weers
Gross I Lecture Tutor

I'm from Anamosa, Iowa and graduated from Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa before coming to Palmer.  I never considered chiropractic while in undergrad, but once I looked into it I knew I found what I had been looking for.  Chiropractic is a great way to help people get the most out of their lives.  Once I decided on chiropractic, I knew the best place to go was here at Palmer - right where it all began!
