Present:  Susan Burns, Karen Goodell, Ruth Hall, Phyllis Harvey, Natalee Hattig, Dennis Peterson, Dr. Glenda Wiese  

Meeting Time:  10:10 a.m. - 11:15 a.m.

Aim for Meeting

Updates from Library Faculty
Professor Peterson - Director

  • Continuing to work on Palmer West Library FY 2004 Assessment Review, which should be done by this Friday.
  • Will began working on the Palmer Health Sciences Library FY 2004 Assessment Review after the first of the new year.
  • Association of College & Research Libraries adopted a revised set of guidelines for all types of academic libraries in June 2004. Palmer Health Sciences Libraries will adopt the revised set of guidelines beginning with the FY 2005 review period.
  • The FY 2006 budget recommendations will be completed by Friday.

Assistant Professor Burns - Cataloging

  • Continuing to work with Ms. Harvey and the Acquisitions Department management transition.

Instructor Goodell - Information & Instruction

  • Ms. Goodell's PC workstation is down until Information Services can repair.
  • Revising Library 110 course materials, particularly the 1st trimester course.
  • The midterm for Library 110 Information Literacy is just before the holiday break.
  • Have sent suggested focus group questions on Library 110 Information Literacy to Dr. Kile at Institutional Planning & Research.

Assistant Professor Hall - Cataloging & Processing

  • Will be attending a BCR workshop on January 6, 2005 in Iowa City on Cataloging: CD-ROMS, Multimedia and Software.
  • Continuing to work on Palmer Florida Library cataloging projects for audio visual materials.
  • Davenport Public Library is presenting a seminar on Dealing with Difficult People on January 21, 2005 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. 

Associate Professor Harvey - Acquisitions, Serials & Electronic Resources

  • Library Assistant Patricia Peters has moved from Circulation to Collection Management and will begin her training.
  • Continuing working with Ms. Burns regarding training of Acquisitions processes.
  • Reported on conversation with Assistant Professor Eileen Burg, Information and Instruction Librarian at Palmer Florida Library, regarding missing Reference books. 

Instructor Hattig - Access

  • Library Supervisor Teresa Maness will be assigned the Document Delivery services as Ms. Peters is assigned to Collection Management.
  • The staff evaluations are due December 10, 2004.

Professor Wiese - Special Collections & Archives

  • Reported attending ACE Bargaining Unit sessions all day Monday and Tuesday of this week; Tuesday and Wednesday of next week.
  • Working on various historical reference questions.
  • Dr. Wiese's article, a summary of her dissertation thesis, has been published in the Journal of Chiropractic Education.
  • Received donated papers from Dr. Ted Schrader, former chair of the Council on Chiropractic Technique.  Also received a letter from Dr. Schrader with a generous donation check to assist in the processing of the collected papers.

Discussion points

  • Discussed data base licensing restrictions of various vendors; will discuss further.
  • Discussion on missing reference books at Palmer Florida. After Ms. Burg does inventory, will decide what to replace and how to prevent further theft.
  • Discussed the list of equipment and computing items needed for FY 2006; and need to recommend increases in budget lines for online, periodical and book materials. .

Action Steps for Library Faculty

  • Mr. Peterson working to have Palmer West Library assessment review done by Friday.
  • Mr. Peterson to begin Palmer Iowa assessment review after the first of new year.
  • Mr. Peterson to have FY 2006 budget recommendations completed by this Friday.
  • Ms Harvey and Ms. Burns to continuing training for Acquisitions management.
  • Staff evaluations are due December 10, 2004.
