Aim for Meeting

  • Weekly departmental meeting.

Updates from Library Faculty
Professor Peterson – Director

  • Completed the August-November 2004 President’s report.
  • Reported on progress of the Palmer Health Sciences Library FY 2004 Assessment Review.
  • Reported on discussion in the Educational Leadership Council meeting. 
    • Implementation of All School Assembly programs once each term.
    • Board of Trustees meeting schedule 04-05 February 2005 in San Diego.
  • Received “The Library as Place” DVD of a joint two day conference hosted by the National Library of Medicine and Association of Academic Health Sciences Libraries in November 2003. Previewing the DVD, a number of excellent presentations were made about the Library’s role in fostering a learning discovery and research environment, and noted that architect Shirley Dugdale, Palmer College’s consultant for the programmatic design of the new Library building, was one of the invited speakers.
  • Discussed the relationships of CLIBCON, ACC Libraries Group and CLS with a idea to evolve-dissolve CLIBCON into ACC Libraries Group. Proposed the ACC Libraries Group sponsoring an ACC session of presentations and posters.

Assistant Professor Burns – Cataloging

  • Continuing to do both original and copy cataloging of the collection.

Instructor Goodell - Information & Instruction

  • Will be teaching a graduate research class with Dr. Hondras in the Research Department.
  • Continuing to revise course assignments for Library 110.
  • Working on a new course book for the transition of Library 110 to 1st trimester.
  • Three replacement PC workstations have been installed in the 3rd floor Reference area.

Assistant Professor Hall - Cataloging & Processing

  • The 06 January 2005 BCR workshop on Cataloging: CD-ROMS, Multimedia and Software in Iowa City was cancelled due to weather conditions and will be rescheduled.
  • Technical Library Assistant Marcia Wheeler is working on the CTL materials cataloging project.
  • The Library Holiday party is this Friday, January 7th 7:00-10:00 p.m. at Fulton’s Landing.

Associate Professor Harvey – Acquisitions, Serials & Electronic Resources

  • The transition of Acquisitions assignments is going well.
  • The DVD player has been installed on Library Assistant Patricia Peters PC workstation.
  • If there are any linking problems with online journals, please contact Ms. Harvey. Problems may occur more often because of the new calendar and subscription year.
  • Completed Webcast online training with EBSCO A-to-Z online journals management.
  • Continue to review the weekly Majors New Books List for purchases.
  • Continuing to order books for Palmer Florida Library collection.
  • The Reference PC workstations are bumping students off during searches. Should the Library consider installing Word on Reference PC workstations for written student assignments?

Instructor Hattig - Access

  • Library Supervisor Teresa Maness will be processing Document Delivery requests.

Professor Wiese - Special Collections & Archives

  • Library Assistant Sonnet Busen is processing the Dr. Esther Mork donation.
  • Library Assistant Culley Smith continues to process chiropractic historian Russell Gibbons' manuscript donation.
  • Processing will begin on the Dr. Ted Schrader manuscript collection.
  • Reviewing several recently received boxes of donated items from Dr. Joe Keating.
  • A PC workstation for public use in the Reading Room was installed. Needs to have Microsoft Office installed on this computer.
  • A barcode reader will be installed in Special Collections on a PC workstation. Technical Library Assistant Cely Pollitz will work in Special Collections on Monday
