Present:  Susan Burns, Karen Goodell, Phyllis Harvey, Natalee Hattig, Dennis Peterson, Dr. Glenda Wiese

Meeting Time:  10:10 a.m. – 11:05 a.m.

Aim for Meeting

  • Approved minutes of 06 January 2005.

Updates from Library Faculty
Professor Peterson – Director

·         Reported on meeting with the Palmer Davenport academic Educational Leadership Council.

·         Reported on meeting with Mr. Lee, Chief of Support Services. The second Florida building is open for classes; the Library in Building Two is experiencing water leaks. The proposed Davenport Library building is on the February Board agenda.

·         Continuing to work on Horizon software upgrade scheduling; and talking to Mr. Matt Kellon, Information Services Network Manager in Florida regarding the coordination of the software upgrade schedule.

·         Placed an order for five copies of the National Library of Medicine Symposium DVD “The Library as Place”. This is an excellent Symposium, one that everyone should review.

·         Mr. Peterson will be off campus this Friday, January 21, 2005.

·         Working on revising the CLIBCON statistical survey form.

·         Looking for a meeting place off campus to complete the PHSL–ACRL FY 2004 Assessment Review.  

Assistant Professor Burns - Cataloging

  • Completed 41 cataloging items for both Davenport and Florida.
  • Continuing to catalog materials for the Center for Teaching and Learning collection.
  • Assistant Professor Hall will be reviewing the Michigan Association’s Chiropractic Journal titles cataloging before continuing.
  • Beginning original cataloging for the Anglo European College of Chiropractic theses next week.

Instructor Goodell - Information & Instruction

·         Will be attending along with Associate Professor Harvey, Acquisitions, Serials and Electronic Resources, a PALS workshop entitled “First Search Administrative Module” at Coal Valley, IL on Wednesday, January 26, 2005 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

·         Received funding from the Faculty Enrichment Committee to attend LOEX National Conference in Louisville, KY on May 12-14, 2005.

·         Attending a teleconference with Instructor Hattig, Access Librarian at the Davenport Public Library on “Dealing with Difficult People” from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 21, 2005.

·         Completed a new Library 110 test out exam which was compiled from library faculty input. In order for a student to be eligible for the test out examination, a student’s transcript will need to be checked for a qualifying course. Instructor Goodell should meet with Ms. Mindy Leahy, Registrar’s Office and Dr. Dennis Marchiori, Dean of Academic Affairs on how to proceed.

Associate Professor Harvey – Acquisitions, Serials and Electronic Resources

·         Sent a Helpdesk ticket to Information Services to repair office printer.

·         Reported on meeting with Mr. Peterson regarding missing book list at Florida Library.  A lot of the books will be reordered with Assistant Professor Eileen Burg, Palmer Florida Information & Instruction Librarian reviewing what other areas to consider.

·         Very few complaints of problems with journal links due to the new subscription year.

·         Completed a Helpdesk ticket to Information Services for the Reference area computers. The computers have a tendency to bump back a screen when searching and one cannot minimize screen on the computers so that more that one screen could be open.

Instructor Hattig – Access

·         Reported on Campus Safety Committee meeting.

·         Continuing to work on Subject Guide resource links for PHSL webpage.

·         Document Delivery services are being done by Teresa Maness, Night Supervising Library Assistant.

·         Ms. Maness has completed a list of Copyright Clearance Center fees for ready reference of the most requested journals titles.

Professor Wiese - Special Collections & Archives

  • Attending ACE Bargaining Unit sessions all day last Thursday.  The ACE Bargaining Unit may meet next Monday and Tuesday.
  • Dr. Wiese is serving on a new College Assessment Task Force Committee chaired by Dr. Robert Percuoco.
  • An ad was placed in the Weekly Bulletin for student workers.
  • Dr. Wiese’s article was published in the Chiropractic History journal titled: “The Gillet Family: Belgian Chiropractic Pioneers – A Photo History” .

Discussion points

  • Discussed reference books that are now online and cost of licensing agreements for all three libraries.
  • Discussion on various problems of the Reference area computers.

 Action Steps for Library Faculty

  • Professor Peterson will be checking for a meeting place off campus to complete the PHSL–ACRL FY 2004 Assessment Review.
  • Associate Professor Harvey will investigate various link checker software for the maintenance on records online.
  • Instructor Goodell to meet with Ms. Leahy and Dr. Marchiori to see how to proceed on Library 110 student test out.

  • Approval of Minutes.
  • Forward Agenda items to Mr. Peterson.
  • Continued discussion on specified points.
