FCA Convention 2011: Connecting with alumni and rewarding students
9/1/2011 (Archived)
The Florida Chiropractic Association
(FCA) held their National Convention & Expo 2011 Aug. 25-28 in
Orlando. Palmer hosted two successful and well-attended events during
the occasion, including a Friday evening reception and a luncheon on
Saturday.
“We served 230 alumni during the luncheon, which was
wonderful,” said Mickey Burt, D.C., director of alumni. “We also had a
constant flow of alumni and prospective students who came by the booth
to talk to us. It was a very busy and successful event.”
Each
year, the Florida Chiropractic Foundation funds five $2,500
scholarships for students on Palmer’s Florida Campus. Four of the
recipients were present (the fifth scholarship, in honor of Dr. James
Glisson, will be awarded next term), including:
• Mehrtash Davari – recipient of the Marie Michael Memorial Gift Scholarship
• Anthony Harris – recipient of the Dr. Frank Farkas Gift Scholarship
• Krista Sapp – recipient of the Dr. Palmera Kabana Memorial Gift Scholarship
•Bethany Dreiling – recipient of the Dr. Jack Hendricks Memorial Gift Scholarship
In
the spring, the Mid-Florida Chiropractic Society hosts a golf
tournament with the proceeds funding student scholarships. This year,
the Society donated $15,000 to Palmer’s Florida Campus students, funding
six $2,500 scholarships. The total they’ve raised to date is $88,000,
which includes $62,500 for an endowed scholarship. Two of the
scholarship recipients were Sean Driscoll (Mid-Florida Chiropractic
Society Gift Scholarship) and Meghan Waters (Standard Process – FCA Gift
Scholarship and the FCA Dr. Ed Williams Leadership Award Gift
Scholarship. Three more $2,500 Standard Process scholarships to be given
out later this year.
