NBCE students 2014-1On Jan. 17, three Palmer students attended the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners (NBCE) Student Leadership Forum. The Leadership Forum was held at the NBCE headquarters located in Greeley, Colo.

Every year the NBCE executive staff invites the national student leaders from the American Black Chiropractic Association (ABCA), American Chiropractic Association (ACA), International Chiropractors Association (ICA) and World Congress of Chiropractic Students (WCCS). Among those who attended were Palmer students Erica Heppe, Corey Harrington and Robert Weiss. Erica is a San Jose, Calif., Campus student and currently serves as the National Legislative Vice-Chair for Student American Chiropractic Association (SACA). Corey is a Davenport, Iowa, Campus student and serves as the National Student Representative for the ABCA. Robert serves as the National Vice-Chair for SACA and also attends the Davenport, Iowa, Campus.

In total, there were 11 student leaders in attendance representing five U.S. chiropractic schools and schools located in Australia, South Africa and the United Kingdom.

Upon arrival, NBCE President Dr. Norman Ouzts and newly elected Executive Vice President Dr. Martin Kollasch welcomed students and facilitated the program. Students were given an inside look at the daily operations of NBCE, which concluded with a Q&A session. In addition to meeting the NBCE staff, students had the unique opportunity to meet the Federation of Chiropractic Licensing Boards’ Board of Directors.

“Participation in this leadership retreat has been an awesome experience," said Corey. "The amount of work that is being done to ensure that our licensing exams are fair and relevant was mind blowing. I was very impressed with the work of NBCE.”

Said Robert, “What impressed me most was the transparency. We asked some tough questions, and they answered all of them in full.”

Among the items that were discussed were written exam development, scoring of NBCE exams and exam cost. Students can find much of this information at the NBCE website and the NBCE Facebook page.
