Florida Campus Student Council sends care packages to troops
9/17/2010 (Archived)
Christmas came early
for 14 U.S. soldiers stationed in various locations overseas. In August, the
Student Council on the Florida Campus was able to collect the names and
addresses from family and friends of 14 individuals representing all branches of
the armed forces.
All 14 soldiers
received packages containing a variety of chiropractic related products, such as
vitamins donated by the Biotics Research Corporation and cryoderm and thermoderm
donated by Cryoderm. Also included were healthy snacks, first aid kits,
sunscreen, bug spray and Palmer T-shirts, pens and key chains.
The Student Council
project was spearheaded by Carly Meckle and assisted by the Student Services
Department.
“We tried to come up with items that they could use to make
their experience just a little easier,” said Ms. Meckle.
The care packages were
certainly appreciated, as evidenced by a note penned by one of the soldiers
whose last name, ironically, is Palmer.
“We really appreciate
the packages," wrote Corporal Palmer. "My buddies and I are able to put the
stuff to good use .… We are all proud to be fighting for everyone back in the
States. God bless and thanks again.”
