LPGA partners with Palmer’s Florida Campus in Futures Tour

Future chiropractors working with future professional golfers was one of the
highlights of the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Futures Tour’s
$100,000 Daytona Beach Invitational. Joining other partners such as BMW, Daytona
Harley Davidson, Brown and Brown Insurance, and United Healthcare, the Sports
Council on Palmer’s Florida Campus provided chiropractic services to the players
throughout the tournament. This is the first partnership between Palmer College
and the LPGA.An obviously excited Haru Nomura, from Tokyo, Japan,
saved par on the 18th hole in Sunday’s final round for the win. When asked how
important it was for her to win for the people back home in Japan who had
suffered in the devastation of the recent earthquake and tsunami, the teen’s
tone changed.
“I
think it’s very important to give them something to cheer about,” she said. “We
constantly talk about it. They are in my thoughts and in my mind.”
Heather Bowyer, D.C.,
C.C.S.P., who directs the Sports Council, said, “It was nice to be able to
provide this service to the athletes. This was one of three consecutive
tournaments, and the tour is headed to Mexico next week. With so much travel and
long days of practice and play, they benefit from our services.”
Entering its 31st
competitive season in 2011, the LPGA Futures Tour has become the world’s largest
international women’s developmental tour. As the "Road to the LPGA," the top 10
money winners each season earn automatic membership on the LPGA Tour.
Noting that many golfers
took advantage of Palmer’s services, Ryan Ronk, manager of Tournament Marketing
and Sales, said “Having Palmer’s staff on hand to care for our golfers provided
a very valuable resource for the LPGA Futures Tour and our event.”
