Davenport Campus: Palmer Men’s Rugby Club makes Final Four
5/24/2011 (Archived)
The Davenport Campus men’s rugby team made history with back-to-back final
four qualifications. The Palmer Men’s Rugby Club made school history on Sunday,
May 22, when it qualified for the USA Rugby Final Four championship for the
second year in a row.
The ruggers will head to Glendale, Colo., for their
second straight appearance in the championship round, facing Olympic Club on
Saturday, June 4. The game time has not yet been posted.
The Palmer men’s rugby
team qualified for the final four this year by defeating two tough clubs from
the east coast in Manassas, Va., over the weekend. On Saturday, Palmer defeated
the former Super League PAC rugby club 33-24, which set up the showdown on
Sunday pitting the Midwest number one seed against the Northeast number one seed
Mystic River. Palmer jumped out to a commanding 29-7 lead and held on for a
41-21 win to send the team back to the finals.
Plans are underway to have a block of rooms available
at the team hotel in Glendale for anyone wishing to support the team at the
Final Four championship. Details will be forthcoming.
Congratulations to the
2011 squad—Go Palmer!
