Davenport Campus: SPEAK Farmer's Market to start June 9
6/7/2011 (Archived)
This year’s SPEAK Farmer’s Market will start on Thursday, June
9. The Farmer’s Market will be held each Thursday from 3-6 p.m. from early June
through September, and will offer the same fresh local produce from Country
Corner Farms as last year.
This year, the Farmer's Market will be held on the
east side of Brady Street—-the side located closest to the Visitor’s Parking Lot
off Palmer Drive.
The change in location from last year was made in
large part to increase accessibility for both Palmer customers and those from
the local community.
Another change this year will be the inclusion of a
featured “Palmer Vendor” each week in addition to the farm stand. This will be a
Palmer employee, student or spouse who has something to offer for sale. Items
will vary each week. Also under consideration is adding other vendors to the
market who sell such things as of fresh eggs, meat or baked goods. A survey is
in the works for the Davenport Campus community about interest in buying these
types of products.
A
final change to the market is the addition of weekly events coordinated by the
various organizations and clubs on campus. Clubs, fraternal organizations or
other groups on campus. Examples of events being considered are an egg "toggle
off," a pie-eating contest, smoothie-making contest, fresh juice-making contest,
launch party, fall festival or live music. Student Services will be partnering
with the market to offer prizes with prior approval if applicable.
