Research Project Assessment Criteria

Assessment of Student Project Application (SPA)

The Research Honors Subcommittee of the Research Council will evaluate the SPA based on the Boyer Standards of Scholarly Work from Glassick CE, Huber MT, Maeroff GI. Scholarship Assessed: Evaluation of the Professoriate. (San Francisco: Jossey-Bass Publishers, 1997), 22-36.

  • Clear Goals
    1. Was the basic purpose stated clearly?
    2. Does the application include reasonable and realistic objectives?
     
  • Adequate Preparation
    1. Are necessary resources available?
    2. Is the timeline adequate for completion of the project?
     
  • Appropriate Methods
    1. Are methods appropriate for project goals?
    2. Do student and mentor possess the necessary skills for the project?
     
  • Deliverable
    1. Is the planned deliverable appropriate for the project?
    2. Would the deliverable be suitable for submission for Research Honors recognition at graduation?

    1. Is the deliverable a suitable style?
    2. Is the deliverable effectively organized for presentation of the work?
    3. Is the deliverable stated with clarity and integrity?
     
  • Reflective Critique
    1. Did the candidate critically evaluate their work?
    2. Did the candidate realize ways to improve methods for future work?
