Dr. Avinash Patwardhan, Director of the Musculoskeletal Biomechanics Laboratory at the Edward Hines, Jr. VA Hospital, will present “Postural Compensation and Disc Mechanics in Forward Head Posture – A Novel Laboratory Model of Cervical Sagittal Balance” on Wednesday, May 8, from 1:55 to 2:45 p.m. in Room P201.
This presentation will report on a laboratory study simulating increased (forward head posture [FHP]) severity and measuring: (1) the compensatory angular and translational repositioning of each vertebra such that a horizontal gaze is maintained; and (2) intradiscal pressures. Cervical sagittal imbalance has been linked to poor health-related quality of life scores due to disabling symptoms of neck pain and neurological deficit. A forward position of the head relative to shoulder FHP is a measure of global cervical imbalance.
This presentation is part of the Clinical Research Seminar Series sponsored by the Palmer Center for Chiropractic Research, the Palmer Division of Graduate Studies and NIH grant R25-AT003580.
