The Davenport Campus Student Council held its inaugural Palmer n8k Race on April 5. The eight-kilometer run and onemile walk drew 160 students, employees and area residents, and raised more than $1,500 for the Special Olympics of Iowa.

“We wanted to give the run a name that related to chiropractic,” said Davenport Campus student and race director Heather Maxwell. “This event helps us educate people about chiropractic and serves to remind everyone that it is a Palmer event.”

“My background is in non-profit charity events,” added Ms. Maxwell. “For me to see something that had been worked on for a year manifest itself into something so positive for Special Olympics, Palmer and the Quad Cities area is exciting and humbling.” She credits the large turnout and success of the event to the hard work of the campus’ student body and the more than 100 volunteers who went above and beyond their duties to ensure the event went smoothly. The Athletic Intelligence Expo also was held in conjunction with the event.
