In just three years, the Mid-Florida
Chiropractic Society (MFCS) of the
Florida Chiropractic Association has
raised $40,000 to go toward a gift
scholarship for second quarter and
above students attending Palmer’s
Florida Campus.
“We view the Florida Campus as
Florida’s chiropractic college and
want to support our future colleagues,”
said Michael Chance,
D.C., Davenport ’78, who is
director of the MFCS, which is
made up of Palmer and non-Palmer
graduates in Gainesville, Fla.
Dr. Chance also organizes the annual
Swing Back into Spring Golf
Tournament, which raises money for
the scholarship through its golfers,
a silent auction and key sponsors
Standard Process, Douglas Lab and
Dee Cee Labs.
“This year we had 128 golfers and each
participant received a goodie bag, a
spine shirt, logo balls and tees, and
prizes on every hole,” he said. “Florida
Campus President Dr. Peter Martin
joined the golfers for a barbecued lunch
and accepted a check from us on behalf
of the Florida Campus.”
According to Dr. Chance, by 2010 the
society is expected to have a $50,000-
$60,000 endowed scholarship. It will
begin awarding two $2,000 scholarships
to deserving students this August
at the Florida Chiropractic Association
convention. Then, in 2010, two $3,000
scholarships will be awarded annually.
