Florida Campus students recently made clinical
rounds at the Hospice Care Center in Port Orange.
All students registered in Structure 9 (Geriatrics) are
part of a rotation through Hospice of Volusia/Flagler.
“This relationship we’ve built with Hospice has been
a tremendous experience and success,” said program
advisor and Florida Campus Instructor John Lockenour,
D.C., Davenport ’77. “Our students are receiving
valuable insights. The staff at Hospice has been very
impressed with the quality of our students. We plan
to continue this relationship every quarter.”
The Hospice of Volusia/Flagler has been a respected leader in end-of-life
care since 1979. According to HalifaxHealth.org, the organization cares
for nearly 600 patients throughout the area.
In a related event, a dozen students donated their time to serve food at the
American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life Benefit Dinner earlier this year.
Florida Campus Professor Veronica Dishman, Ph.D., was a keynote speaker
and coordinated the students’ participation.
