The Palmer College family was saddened by the
death of William M. Harris, D.C., a 1938 graduate
of Palmer, who passed away Nov. 9, 2008,
in Roswell, Ga. He was 90.

Dr. Harris was heavily involved in chiropractic
for more than 65 years and continued to work
for the profession up until his death. Upon
graduating from Palmer, he accepted a teaching
position in the Radiology Department. Later
he helped form the College’s alumni association
with Dr. Dave Palmer and started the fundraising
effort for the construction of the
Alumni Auditorium.
As founder of Practice Consultants, Dr. Harris
would become well-known for offering lessons
in office management to hundreds of chiropractors
throughout the U.S.
A generous supporter of the chiropractic profession,
in 1978 he founded the nonprofit
organization Foundation for the Advancement
of Chiropractic Education (FACE) so that he
could donate to chiropractic research as well
as colleges and institutions.

The Palmer Center for Chiropractic Research
(PCCR) was one of several facilities to receive
a gift from FACE. The PCCR’s main facility on
the Davenport Campus is named the William
and Jo Harris Building after Dr. Harris and his
wife, Jo. His many charitable gifts to the profession
included a $300,000 contribution to the
Chiropractic Centennial Foundation in 1995.
In recognition of his dedication to and support
of chiropractic, Dr. Harris was named a Fellow
of the Palmer Academy of Chiropractic.
Dr. Harris co-authored two books, “Seven Steps
to Chiropractic Success” and “Seven Steps to
Chiropractic Success: How to Attract New
Patients,” one of which received a rare dedication
by the second president of Palmer College,
B.J. Palmer.
In the community of Albany, Ga., where
Dr. Harris operated a private practice, he was
active in the Boy Scouts and sat on the board
of the local Salvation Army and the Lions Club.
He also began a campaign to aid and support
battered women.
Dr. Harris is survived by a son, Tom Harris,
a daughter, Beverly Logan, as well as a granddaughter
and grandson. Memorials may be
