Dr. J. Calvin Wenger, ’56, Manheim , Pa., previous chairman of the Board and resident of Pleasant View Retirement Community, was honored with the LeadingAge PA 2013 Trustee of the Year Award. Dr. Wenger received the award on April 25, 2013, during a Life of Service Gala held in his honor at Pleasant View. The Trustee of the Year Award is given to voluntary leaders who have demonstrated a significant contribution by enriching the lives and well-being of seniors, displayed a personal commitment to the life of the organization and provided outstanding leadership to the organization and the community at large.

A Manheim native, Dr. Wenger dedicated his professional career to the health and wellness of the Lancaster community through his chiropractic practice. His father, Dr. S.G. Wenger, founded the Wenger Chiropractic Groups in 1938, with Dr. Calvin joining the practice in 1956. With more than 100 years of combined experience, they have treated six generations of patients.


Dr. Douglas Valentine, ’67, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, retired in July 2013 after 45 years of practice. Dr. Valentine graduated magna cum laude as class co-salutatorian. Dr. K.S.J. Murkowski, ’72, Jackson, Mich., welcomed Dr. K.S.J. (Duke) Murkowski II, Davenport ’12, to Northwest Chiropractic Life Center (NCLC) in Jackson. Dr. Duke Murkowski II is now NCLC Department Head of Lab-Disc Decompression- Rehab and Sports Injury. His father, Dr. K.S.J. Murkowski, was recently elected vice president of the Michigan Association of Chiropractors-District 4 and just received his 100-hour certification in acupuncture. He’s obtaining a Fellowship in Acupuncture (200 hours) and is participating in Palmer’s CCSP certification program this fall.

Additionally, Dr. Murkowski has written a new book, “W.A.D.S. II (Whiplash Associated Disorder Syndromes and Subluxations”). He also unveiled his new “Navigating the Medicare Mine Field Seminar,” which helps prevent federal audits and shows D.C.s and C.A.s the importance of compliance. Dr. Murkowski was the ACA/ICA Chairman of ICD-10-CM to the World Health Organization and represented chiropractic to the United Nations. He is a speaker for Foot Levelers at various chiropractic state conventions.

Dr. Lonnie Jackson, ’74, Johnson City, Tenn., received the Keith D. Bailey Chiropractic Service Award from the Tennessee Chiropractic Association, for his “outstanding and notable service toward the benefit of the chiropractic profession in Tennessee.”

Dr. Roland Behemier, ’76, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, has retired and works for a charitable foundation called Chiropractic for the World Foundation. Dr. Behemier is the vice president. The foundation’s mandate is to bring chiropractic to third-world countries. Email:
