Support the Iowa Healthiest State Initiative by participating in the Palmer “Start Somewhere Walk” Oct. 7

Iowa Governor Terry Branstad recently announced his goal to have Iowa rank as the nation’s healthiest state. According to the 2010 Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index, Iowa is #19 in the nation when it comes to residents being physically, emotionally and mentally healthy. The goal of the Iowa Healthiest State initiative is to earn the #1 spot by 2016. To kick off the initiative, Governor Branstad called for as many Iowans as possible to participate in a “Start Somewhere Walk” in their community at noon on October 7.

In support of this initiative, Palmer’s Davenport Campus is organizing a “Start Somewhere Walk” for students, faculty, staff, clinic patients, neighbors and friends on Friday, Oct. 7 at noon. Everyone should meet in the West Hall Courtyard by noon, and then walk as a group to Vander Veer Park and back. Wear Palmer apparel if you wish.

The Governor’s office is keeping track of people throughout the state who are participating in walks by asking them to register on the Iowa Healthiest State website at www.iowahealthieststate.com. If you’re planning to walk on Oct. 7, go to the Get Started/Take the Pledge page to register.
