Palmer well-represented at 5th Annual Daytona Half-Marathon
On a morning with the weather more reminiscent of Davenport, Iowa, than Port Orange, Fla., nearly 1,400 runners braved near-freezing temperatures as they ran the 13.1 mile course from Daytona International Speedway to the beach during the annual Daytona Half-Marathon. Several notable NASCAR drivers including Michael Waltrip, Jimmy Johnson, Kasey Kahne and Aric Almirola ran in the event, which this year was held during “Speedweek,” heading into the Daytona 500 was held on February 24.
On hand again this year was the Sports Council from Palmer’s Florida Campus. Set up near trackside, eight members of the Sports Council, led by student intern Aaron Gerard and Maria Romano-Young, D.C., treated dozens of runners as waiting lines formed to receive chiropractic care.
“We really appreciate having Palmer with us. They add an extra dimension to what we are able to offer our runners. It’s obvious by the lines that many of our runners are taking advantage of the service,” said Georgiana Brown, Marketing & Communications Manager for the Central Florida Sports Commission, the event organizers.
