Sports and Chiropractic Symposium: Camaraderie, CE and rugby
The Dr. David D. Palmer Athletic Trust hosted their 2nd Annual Sports and Chiropractic Symposium April 12-14 on Palmer’s Davenport Campus. The CE speakers were Drs. Fred Schofield, Kevin Hearon, Ian McLean and Dan Weinert.
"It was a great weekend full of camaraderie, chiropractic education, mentoring and sports," said Lois Kundel, senior Development officer. "We had 52 doctors registered for CE credits. On Friday evening for the opening session, there were approximately 98 people in attendance, including doctors, guests and students."
Attendance varied for the remaining sessions depending on the students and their commitments. Board members Drs. Michael Hahn and Barry McAlpine participated in various events throughout the weekend.
The Palmer Bookstore hosted the Saturday morning break and made a lot of sales. The men’s and women’s rugby teams both played on Saturday afternoon; the men’s team lost and the women’s team won.
The alumni and team recognition banquet was held Saturday evening and had approximately 120 people in attendance. In addition to recognizing the men’s and women’s rugby teams, Dr. Colin Hardy received the Dr. David D. Palmer Athletic Trust Outstanding Alumnus Award, the Final Four team players were recognized, and Dr. Tracy Francis-Nguyen received a standing ovation for making her vision and determination of having a Palmer women’s rugby team a reality.
There isn't a final accounting of the weekend yet, but organizers are estimating a profit of approximately $9,000 to benefit the Dr. David D. Palmer Athletic Trust.
In February, the Trust held an event in Las Vegas in conjunction with the USA Sevens Rugby Tournament. The event raised $3,980 for the Trust.
