OP3 Disco dudePalmer College of Chiropractic’s student philanthropy organization, Operation Palmer Promotes Play (OP3), will hold a 24-hour Dance-A-Thon fundraiser from 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2, to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3 in the Palmer Alumni Auditorium. OP3’s goal is to have 300 Palmer students, faculty and staff involved in the Dance-A-Thon, along with the children and families from Davenport’s Project Renewal who will benefit from these fundraising efforts. The public also is invited to attend, for any amount of time, for $5 per person at the door.

OP3’s overall goal is to raise $64,000 to completely renovate Sister Concetta Park, located at 6th and Warren streets in Davenport. The park is owned by Project Renewal and used for its activities, which include educational and recreational activities for neighborhood children during the school year and summer. To date, Palmer students have raised $25,000 towards the goal and are planning additional fundraising events such as the upcoming Dance-A-Thon.

“There are so many ways for people to get involved with the Dance-A-Thon,” said OP3 Fundraising Chair and Dance-A-Thon Captain Kristina Bemis. “They can attend the Dance-a-Thon by paying $5 at the door, provide additional food or beverages for dancers, make a donation on behalf of a dancer or a general donation. Anyone can get involved by going to our website at www.palmer.edu/OP3 and clicking on ‘Get Involved or ‘Donate.’ ” Organizers have lined up instructors for salsa, yoga, Zumba and functional fitness sessions during the Dance-A-Thon. There also will be activities such as basketball shootouts, belly dancers and Karoke, plus a DJ from Master Entertainment to keep the party hopping.
