Present:  Susan Burns, Karen Goodell, Ruth Hall, Phyllis Harvey, Natalee Hattig, Dennis Peterson, Dr. Glenda Wiese
Meeting Time: 10:12 a.m. – 10:55 a.m.

Aim for Meeting

  • Weekly departmental meeting.

Updates from Library Faculty
Professor Peterson - Director

  • Submitted the FY 2006 PHSL budget recommendations. Among the new items on the FY 2006 budget there is a request for
  • an Information & Instruction Librarian 
  • a Technical Library Assistant position for Special Services department
  •  appropriate increases for the online, book, periodical, and other budget lines.
  • Library faculty travel requests should submitted to the Professional Development for funding.
  • Reported on Educational Leadership Council and discussion on FY 2006 budget and equipment requests.
  • Continuing to edit the Palmer West Library FY 2004 Assessment Review.
  • Staff evaluations are due this Friday, December 10th.
  • Interviewed three librarians via telephone conference with Dr. Souza, Dr. DuMonthier, Supervising Library Assistant Wendy Kubow for the Palmer West Library Information and Instruction Librarian position. 
  • Reminded everyone departmental August-November 2004 President’s Reports are due on Tuesday of next week.

Assistant Professor Burns - Cataloging

  • Reported on the transition of acquisitions to Ms. Harvey is going fine.
  • Continuing to do cataloging this week.

Instructor Goodell - Information & Instruction

  • Continuing to work on midterms for the Library 110 Information Literacy course.
  • Reported on Academic Integrity meeting.  Working on survey to give to students and faculty around April 2005 on the Integrity at Palmer. The results will help to develop programs to address Integrity.
  • Reported on most recent Faculty Senate meeting.
  • Reviewing and revising questions for the Library 110 test out examination.

Assistant Professor Hall - Cataloging & Processing

  • Ms. Burg, Information & Instruction Librarian at Palmer Florida Library successfully downloaded the quarterly accession list from OCLC.
  • The Center for Teaching and Learning's materials collection, primarily book resources, will be cataloged into HORIZON with a CTL location tag. All materials will continue to be circulated by CTL.
  • Wished Ms. Harvey good luck on her Faculty of the Year nomination.

Associate Professor Harvey - Acquisitions, Serials & Electronic Resources

  • Planning for new assignments in acquisitions are going fairly well. May make further changes in acquisitions assignments at a later date.
  • PHSL FY 2004 book budget monies are either all expended or encumbered. There's encumbered monies for continuations this next Spring. The Majors New Book List will continue to be distributed via Tuesday E-news. FY 2005's budget concentrated on updating the reference book collection and selections from April, May and June of 2004, last fiscal year materials that had not been ordered.
  • Collection Management staff evaluations are complete.

Instructor Hattig - Access

  • Working on Access staff evaluations.

Professor Wiese - Special Collections & Archives

  • ACE bargaining unit negotiations are scheduled all day this Tuesday and Wednesday.
  • The Russell Gibbons manuscript collection accessioning is just about complete.
  • Library Assistant Sonnet Busen is accessioning the Esther Mork donation.
  • Received partial funding from the Faculty Development Committee for the World Federation of Chiropractic 2005 conference in Sydney, Australia. Dr. Wiese will be making a platform presentation at one of the plenary sessions.

Discussion points

  • Discussed the Library's FY 2006 recommended budget items.
  • Discussion on the technicalities of adding the Center for Teaching and Learning materials into the Library's HORIZON integrated library software system..

Action Steps for Library Faculty

  • August-November 2004 President’s Reports are due to Mr. Peterson next Tuesday.
  • Library staff evaluations are to be completed by Friday, December 10th.
  • Mr. Peterson editing Palmer West Library FY 2004 Assessment Review.

Aim for Next Week's Meeting

  • Approval of Minutes.
  • Forward Agenda items to Mr. Peterson.
  • Continued discussion on specified points.
