Chiropractic and the PGA
David Johnson, D.C., a 1977 graduate of Palmer’s Davenport campus from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, spoke to more than 50 alumni and guests at the Palmer Alumni dinner on Oct. 21, held in conjunction with the Iowa Chiropractic Society Fall Symposium in Cedar Rapids. Dr. Johnson is the father of Zach Johnson, a professional golfer on the PGA tour and a member of this year’s Ryder Cup team. Dr. Johnson spoke about his son’s rise to prominence in the PGA and how chiropractic is utilized by PGA golfers. Zach and his fellow PGA golfers take advantage of the performance edge that regular chiropractic care can provide to athletes by utilizing a chiropractic trailer that accompanies the golfers to each PGA event. During the Ryder Cup this year in Europe, Dr. Johnson was pleased to see Tiger Woods as one who took advantage of the chiropractic care being offered.

ACA Names Dr. David Seaman Academic of the Year
Associate Professor David Seaman, D.C., M.S., was one of the first faculty members appointed to Palmer’s Florida campus when its doors opened in October 2002. On Oct. 20, Davenport Campus Dean of Clinics Kurt Wood, D.C., announced that James Owens, D.C., is the new director of the Chiropractic Learning Resource Center (CLRC). As director, Dr. Owens will manage the CLRC operations and provide leadership for implementing the vision, purpose and functions of the facility. Reporting to Dr. Wood, Dr. Owens will be responsible for the quality and delivery of patient care, as well as intern education in the facility, scheduled for completion in spring 2007, with an opening in the summer. A 1982 graduate of Palmer College of Chiropractic, Dr. Owens has earned board certifications as a Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician and Certified Chiropractic Extremity Practitioner. He also is certified by the American Chiropractic Rehabilitation Board in Chiropractic Rehabilitation. He joined Palmer College in 1987 as a clinical teaching resident, and then served as coordinator of emergency procedures until being named Walcott Clinic administrator in 1990. In 1992 he was appointed module administrator and faculty clinician at the Main Clinic, as well as coordinator of the Clinical Teaching Residents Program. In 2003, Dr. Owens was named assistant director of the Main Clinic along with serving as a faculty clinician, until he was named interim director of the Main Clinic in November 2005.

Colorado State Associations Latest to Unify
Congratulations are in order for the three Colorado chiropractic associations, which recently agreed to merge. The Colorado Chiropractic Association, the Colorado Chiropractic Society and the Colorado Chiropractic Wellness Alliance have agreed to combine their resources and focus their collective energies on advancing the profession. A committee made up of members of each of the three state associations, the Colorado Chiropractic Unity Committee, was formed in November 2005, and worked diligently to unify the three state organizations. Similar efforts are underway in Virginia, where members of the Virginia Chiropractic Association and Virginia Society of Chiropractic have formed a task force to explore unification. In addition to the recent efforts in Colorado and Virginia, over the past few years, chiropractic associations in several other states, including Michigan, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, have either completed mergers or are in the process of exploring merger options.
