West Campus President William Meeker, D.C., M.P.H., has been named the George B. McClelland Researcher of the Year by the American Chiropractic Association (ACA). The award was announced Sept. 22 during the ACA’s 44th Annual Business Meeting in Washington, D.C., and recognizes excellence and achievement in research that expands the body of knowledge of chiropractic.

“Dr. Meeker has gone beyond fostering chiropractic growth and understanding through his tireless work in academic research positions,” said ACA President Glenn Manceaux, D.C. “He has devoted his entire career to enhancing the scientific capacities of chiropractic, and has successfully helped to insert the chiropractic paradigm into the public eye.”

Dr. Meeker has an extensive background in chiropractic research, initially serving as assistant professor in Palmer’s Division of Research on the West Campus from 1983 until 1986. He was named associate dean of research in 1986. After earning his master’s degree in Public Health from San Jose State University in 1988, he became dean of research at the West Campus the following year and served in that role until 1995.

At that time, Dr. Meeker was named director of the Palmer Center for Chiropractic Research (PCCR) on the Davenport Campus. From 2001 until assuming the presidency of the West Campus, he served as the College’s vice president for research.

“I am very pleased to receive this award from the ACA, especially because it is in the name of one of the great supporters of chiropractic research over the past three decades and more, George B. ‘Mac’ McClelland, D.C.,” said Dr. Meeker. “This award recognizes the positive impact that chiropractic scientists have on our profession’s future.”

As the recipient of this year’s Researcher of the Year Award, Dr. Meeker follows Christine Choate, D.C., the executive director for the PCCR, who received the award in 2006.

Outside of his duties at Palmer, Dr. Meeker has served multiple positions with the chiropractic section of the American Public Health Association, for which he was awarded its Distinguished Service Award in 1999.
