Florida Campus Associate Professor Luis Vera, D.C., is World Karate Champion

Karate competitors from around the globe met Nov. 4-10, in Orlando, Florida, for the 2017 WKC World Karate Championships. Representatives from each country were required to qualify in their respective countries to represent their national teams. Luis C. Vera, D.C., associate professor at Palmer’s Florida campus, participated in the WKC U.S. Nationals in Detroit, Michigan. There, he earned two gold medals and two U.S. titles in the Black Belt Kata Divisions. He also was placed on the selective U.S. National Karate Team. As a member of the U.S. National Karate Team, he competed and won a gold medal at the 2017 World Championship, earning the World Championship title.

Dr. Vera, a 2003 graduate of New York Chiropractic College, also won the Grand Champion award at the 2017 International Martial Arts Festival, held at Walt Disney World. His performance was televised live on ESPN. He is the current World WKC Kata Karate Champion.

Additionally, he’s a 3-time U.S. National Champion, 5-time Regional Champion, 8-time State Champion,  and a 2-time Hall of Fame inductee. He also holds the rank of Godan (5th Degree Black Belt) in Goju Ryu Karate. Congratulations to Dr. Vera for all his success.
