Cynthia Long headshotPalmer College of Chiropractic is proud to announce that Cynthia Long, M.S., Ph.D., professor and dean of research, has been elected a Fellow of the American Statistical Association (ASA), the world’s largest community of statisticians and data scientists. This prestigious honor recognizes her exceptional contributions to statistical sciences and her commitment to advancing the field.

The ASA Fellow designation has been a significant recognition in the statistical community for nearly a century. Each year, the ASA Committee on Fellows may elect up to one-third of one percent of the association’s membership as fellows. Nominees must demonstrate an established reputation and have made outstanding contributions to statistical science in research, education, industry, government, or service to the ASA and the broader profession.

Dr. Long holds an M.S. in statistics, a Ph.D. in biostatistics and is an accredited professional statistician. She is the director of the Office of Data Management & Biostatistics at the Palmer Center for Chiropractic Research. She has been the principal investigator, co-investigator, director of the clinical trial/data coordinating center, or primary mentor on 30 federal research grant awards and published more than 120 peer-reviewed research articles. In 2023, she was recognized as the top collaborator and author of research on manual therapy for low back pain. She has chaired or been a member of more than 75 NIH panels reviewing grant applications, serves on the editorial boards of several journals, sits on the Research Advisory Board of the NIH-funded RAND Research Across Complementary and Integrative Health Institutions (REACH) Center, and is a research affiliate of the Osher Center for Integrative Health at Harvard Medical School and Brigham & Women’s Hospital. She is also co-director of the Inter-Institutional Network for Chiropractic Research with investigators at Yale University and the Osher Center. Dr. Long was an officer in three different ASA sections and was elected to serve a three-year term on the ASA Board of Directors.

“Being recognized as an ASA Fellow is a testament to Dr. Long’s dedication and expertise in the field of statistics, as well as advancing the chiropractic profession through research,” said Dennis Marchiori, D.C., Ph.D. chancellor and CEO of Palmer College of Chiropractic. “We are incredibly proud of her achievements and contributions to advancing data science and statistical research.”

Founded in 1839, the American Statistical Association serves members in more than 90 countries, advancing research, science, and technology; promoting sound statistical practice; informing public policy; and contributing to a world in which decisions are data-driven.
