Dr. Brent Young Makes Chiropractic History with VA Appointment

Brent Young (West, '20)Congratulations to Brent Young, D.C. (West, ’20), on his selection as the first chiropractor appointed to provide care at the Veterans Health Administration (VA) clinic in Jacksonville, Florida.

Dr. Young becomes the first African American male D.C. to earn a full-time appointment at one of the 170 VA health centers throughout the country that currently provide chiropractic care.

“To become the first African American man to hold a chiropractic position in America’s largest integrated health-care system is a milestone in my career that may always rank as the most important,” said Dr. Young, who recently completed a year-long residency position at the VA health center in Connecticut (his home state), where he had the opportunity to work with Anthony Lisi, D.C. (West, ’96), director of the VA’s chiropractic program for nearly 17 years, and fellow resident Vivian Ly, D.C. (West, ’18).

“I am beyond grateful for the faculty and friends whom I met at Palmer, who believed in me, pushed me, and motivated me to become the best version of myself – and I look forward to joining the team (of 275 doctors of chiropractic) who currently provide our veterans with a non-pharmaceutical approach to achieving relief from the chronic pain associated with their years of service.”

Palmer’s Department of Defense/Veteran’s Affair’s (DoD/VA) student rotation opportunities give students the chance to serve our nation’s military members and veterans while gaining valuable clinical experience in a multi-disciplinary environment.

These rotations are available to senior-level students on all Palmer campuses and include more than 50 affiliated DoD/VA hospitals and sites. Learn more about opportunities for Palmer students at www.palmer.edu/dod.
