The Bachelor of Science Completion Program: How Palmer Helps Students Like Andrew Wanke Save Time and Tuition

“Opportunities abound at Palmer. It’s a transformative experience, you simply have to take the initiative.” – Andrew Wanke, Palmer student

Through programs like Palmer’s Bachelor of Science Completion Program, students can begin their Doctor of Chiropractic journey while finishing their undergraduate degree, saving time and tuition while accelerating their path to practice. It’s just one example of how Palmer, the place where chiropractic began, continues to propel the future of the profession.

An Accelerated Path to Chiropractic
For fourth-trimester student Andrew Wanke, that forward momentum started early.

After graduating from high school in Davenport, Iowa, Andrew began his undergraduate studies before transitioning into Palmer’s Bachelor of Science completion program. By completing two trimesters of undergraduate coursework at Palmer and then entering the Doctor of Chiropractic program, he was able to streamline his education and move more quickly toward his career goals.

“I knew I wanted to become a chiropractor, and Palmer made it possible to get started sooner,” Andrew says. “It’s a huge advantage to be able to work toward both degrees at the same time.”

A Purpose Rooted in Experience
Andrew’s decision to pursue chiropractic was rooted in personal experience. At just 10 years old, he saw firsthand how chiropractic care transformed his mother’s life after years of chronic back pain. What had once limited her daily activity was replaced with renewed strength and mobility — an impact that left a lasting impression.

“As I got older, I experienced those benefits myself,” Andrew says. “As someone who lifts regularly, I’ve dealt with back strain, and chiropractic care always helped me recover quickly. That’s when I realized how powerful it is.”

When it came time to choose a school, the answer was clear. Encouraged by his hometown chiropractor and reinforced by others in the profession, Andrew consistently heard the same message: Palmer is the leader in chiropractic education. After attending a Palmer 360 event and experiencing the campus firsthand, he understood why.

Challenged to Grow, Supported to Succeed
Since starting at Palmer, Andrew has embraced both the challenge and the opportunity that come with a rigorous, future-focused education. The curriculum has pushed him to develop discipline, resilience, and critical thinking, qualities essential for success in both clinical practice and life.

“Palmer challenges you in the best way,” he says. “It takes grit and dedication, but that process helps you grow into who you need to be as a chiropractor.”

Courses like Peripheral Nervous System (PNS) tested that resolve early on. After a difficult start, Andrew committed to improving his study habits and approach, ultimately finishing the course strong — an experience that reinforced his confidence and perseverance.

A Community That Fuels Belonging
Growth at Palmer extends far beyond the classroom.

Andrew has found a strong sense of belonging through campus involvement, from student organizations to signature events like the Palmer Games and Homecoming. These experiences have helped him build relationships, expand his perspective, and feel connected to something larger than himself.

“There’s a real sense of community here,” he says. “Everyone wants to see each other succeed. You’re surrounded by people who push you and support you at the same time.”

One of the most impactful ways Andrew has stepped into that community is through his role as a Campus Guide. Joining in his first trimester, he intentionally challenged himself to develop his communication and leadership skills.

“Public speaking wasn’t something I was comfortable with at first,” he says. “But leading tours pushed me outside my comfort zone. It’s helped me grow more confident and prepared to connect with patients.”

That willingness to engage — to step forward even when it’s uncomfortable — is something Andrew believes defines the Palmer experience. While the academic foundation is critical, he emphasizes that becoming a well-rounded chiropractor requires initiative, curiosity and a commitment to personal growth.

“Get involved early,” he advises. “Try new things, meet new people and take advantage of every opportunity. That’s how you figure out what path is right for you.”

Looking ahead, Andrew is focused on what drew him to chiropractic in the first place: the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives. Inspired by the care he witnessed growing up, he’s committed to providing that same level of impact to his future patients.

For Andrew, Palmer isn’t just preparing him for a career; it’s accelerating his path, expanding his perspective and shaping him into a confident, capable chiropractor ready to carry the profession forward.
