Your education at Palmer College of Chiropractic prepares you to care for patients. It should also prepare you to build a stable financial life and, for many graduates, a thriving practice of your own. That’s the goal of Foundations of Financial Freedom, a new eight-part workshop series hosted by the Palmer Center for Business Development on Palmer’s Main Campus, beginning in November and running through Feb. 5, 2027.
Each session is free for students, takes place during Club Hour and includes breakfast. The series is sponsored by Empeople Credit Union, the Palmer Office of Financial Aid and the Palmer Center for Business Development.
Practical skills for every stage of your career
The series follows the path most Palmer students will travel: from managing money as a student, to repaying loans as a new Doctor of Chiropractic, to owning and growing a practice. Each workshop focuses on one topic you can put to use right away.
Building your foundation. The series opens with credit building and borrowing basics, two skills that shape your options for car loans, home loans and practice financing for years to come.
Making the most of your financial aid. Megan Nelson, Palmer’s senior director of Financial Aid, will show you how to use work-study to its full potential. A follow-up session covers student loans and repayment strategies so you can graduate with a clear plan.
Thinking like a business owner. The winter sessions turn to the business side of chiropractic: insuring yourself and your business, financial planning for small business owners, buying a home as a small business owner and building wealth through practice ownership.
Workshop schedule
All workshops take place during Club Hour in the NCMIC Conference Room in the Palmer Center for Business Development. Breakfast is provided at each session.

Meet the presenters
Kaela Matt is assistant vice president of consumer sales at Empeople Credit Union. She leads seven of the eight sessions, bringing day-to-day lending experience to topics like credit, borrowing, insurance and small business finance.
Megan Nelson is senior director of Financial Aid at Palmer. She works with students every day on how to fund their education and will share how to get the most value from work-study.
Why financial readiness matters
Earning a Doctor of Chiropractic degree is a significant investment, and Palmer is committed to helping you make the most of it. Understanding your financial aid, borrowing wisely and planning for repayment can make a real difference in how quickly you reach your goals after graduation.
Many Palmer graduates go on to open their own practices, which means the decisions you make about credit, insurance and planning today will shape the business you build tomorrow. Foundations of Financial Freedom gives you the tools to start those decisions with confidence, surrounded by experts and classmates who share your ambition.
