Building a Dynamic Future: How Preston Penrod Maximized Palmer’s Bachelor of Science Completion Program

“Palmer is the Fountainhead where chiropractic began and continues to thrive.” — Preston Penrod

Qualifying students have the opportunity to finish their undergraduate degree during their Doctor of Chiropractic education. Palmer’s Bachelor of Science Completion Program saves a full year of time and tuition while gaining early momentum in the profession. This academic head start is just one example of how Palmer continues to deliver both quality and value while preparing the next generation of chiropractors.

For fifth-trimester student Preston Penrod, that head start has made all the difference.

Preston’s journey into chiropractic began long before he stepped onto campus. As a junior in high school, he worked in a chiropractic clinic, which quickly evolved into something more meaningful.

“My bosses became my mentors,” Preston says. “They taught me about chiropractic philosophy, technique, X-ray, and patient care. That’s where I really learned what chiropractic is.”

Through that hands-on experience, Preston earned his Radiographic Tech Limited license and worked in multiple roles within the clinic. By the time he graduated high school, he wasn’t just interested in chiropractic; he was already immersed in it.

Choosing Palmer, Where Chiropractic Began
When it came time to choose a college, Preston didn’t have to look far. Palmer’s reputation made it the clear choice.

“My mentors told me Palmer is the best place to learn chiropractic philosophy and history,” he says. “Coming to the Fountainhead meant I could learn where it all started.”

That decision aligned perfectly with his career goals: to practice a form of health care rooted in natural, hands-on healing and a deep understanding of the body’s nervous system.

Saving Time While Gaining Experience
Preston’s path through Palmer reflects the flexibility and efficiency of the Bachelor of Science Completion Program. After earning credits through community college coursework and CLEP exams, he transferred to Palmer to complete his undergraduate degree while simultaneously beginning his Doctor of Chiropractic studies.

A Dynamic Learning Environment
Now in his fifth trimester, Preston describes his academic experience as both constructive and impactful.

“At Palmer, you’re taught by chiropractors who understand the whole body,” he says. “That makes a difference because you’re learning from people who have been in the field and know what it takes to succeed.”

That real-world perspective reinforces Palmer’s commitment to preparing students not just to pass exams, but to become confident, capable practitioners.

Leadership, Belonging and Professional Growth
Beyond the classroom, Preston has taken full advantage of the opportunities Palmer offers, especially in leadership and involvement.

As President of the Student International Chiropractors Association (SICA), he has spent more than a year leading initiatives, organizing events and building connections within the profession.

“Being part of the SICA at Palmer means a lot,” he says. “It’s an organization that started more than 100 years ago. Being able to lead within that legacy has been an incredible experience.”

His involvement hasn’t just expanded his network; it’s strengthened his confidence, communication skills and ability to teach others.

“Clubs and leadership roles help you grow in ways classes alone can’t,” he says. “You learn how to connect with people, organize events, and contribute to the profession.”

That ability to layer education with real-world experience is a defining advantage of the program. By the time he fully entered the D.C. program, Preston wasn’t just prepared academically; he already held a deeper understanding of the profession and its community.

Preston credits Palmer with giving him a well-rounded foundation for his future career.

“Palmer prepares you to be competent and confident when working with patients,” he says. “You’re learning everything you need to succeed within the chiropractic scope.”

Looking ahead, he’s focused on what matters most: helping people.

“I’m excited to treat, teach and collaborate with patients and other health professionals,” he says. “I want to help my community improve their health and expand awareness of chiropractic as a safe, effective health care model for everyone.”

Preston’s Advice for Future Students
For incoming students, Preston emphasizes the advice given by many others before him: get involved early and often.

“Join clubs, attend events, and build your network,” he says. “The relationships you build here will follow you into your career.”
That proactive approach, combined with the opportunity to accelerate your education, is what makes the Palmer experience truly unique.
